GA Russell Posted November 28, 2010 Author Report Posted November 28, 2010 You're welcome! I've been looking at the albums that are $5.99. Can anyone recommend any? Quote
mjzee Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 They have the new Sade album, "Soldier of Love," for $1.99. And they have lots of classic Blue Note albums for $3.68. Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Thanks, GA. Last night I stumbled across some Nat Simpkins recordings that definitely intrigue me so this gives me a chance to hear full cuts first rather than making a decision based on 30-second samples. Looks like Bluejay records, which is co-owned by Nat and Cecil Brooks III, has gone all-digital. They released no less than five volumes of Nat's band captured live back in March but they aren't listed on the website and Amazon only offers them as downloads. I decided to go with these two tracks: "Chain Gang" off of Volume 2 and "Shake it Mama" off of Volume 1. And then I went for Cryin Time by Henri Smith off of this Bluejay release. Sounds really good - I am going to have to go for some of these new releases. Quote
papsrus Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Thanks GA. I have several wish list items 'no longer available' but available in mp3 format. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 28, 2010 Author Report Posted November 28, 2010 I found an album that was released when I was in college forty years ago, wanted it then, but never picked it up - Joe Zawinul's Rise and Fall of the Third Stream. I quickly bought it for $3.89. Quote
Quincy Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Thanks! I had just visited a couple of days ago and discovered I had $0.01 in credits from past promotions. Kinda hard to get a mp3 for a penny. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 28, 2010 Author Report Posted November 28, 2010 Help! When I downloaded the album, I clicked on "save" rather than "open". Now I don't see the album anywhere on my computer. I thought it would show up when I booted Windows Media Player. I guess you can tell that this is my first experience downloading an MP3! LOL What do I do? Quote
mjzee Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 It probably saved it to your Downloads folder. Do a search of your hard drive for one of the song titles. Quote
papsrus Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) I think amazon has their own little download app. Check this link for further info. If I remember right, you download the download app, then download the song or album. The mp3 file(s) will appear in the amazon mp3 downloader application window. Then just double click on it in download application window and it opens the files (to your desktop, or iTunes, wherever you direct it.) Edited November 28, 2010 by papsrus Quote
GA Russell Posted November 28, 2010 Author Report Posted November 28, 2010 OK, I think I have found my problem, at least enough to solve it. I double clicked on the download's title in the "downloads" box, and the download was imported into Windows Media Player. So now I think I am set. Quote
mjzee Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Please let us know your thoughts about the sound quality, oh mp3 newbie. Quote
papsrus Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) So is anyone grabbing anything with these credits? I'm just leafing through all the $4.99 and under jazz stuff and there are plenty of good albums there. Going to have to pick one before midnight Pacific. 7,639 to choose from :eye: ... for instance: Lester Bowie -- The 5th Power Edited November 30, 2010 by papsrus Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Thanks for posting this link, GA. I generally download music only if it's not available any other way. Tonight I went all New Orleans, and applied my credit toward download-only tracks by Bonerama, John Boutte with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and an EP by the Soul Rebels Brass Band. Quote
mjzee Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I picked this up, which I never knew existed: His first album as a leader! Quote
JSngry Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 DL-ing MP3s of a song has taken the place of buying 45s, which is something I've always used to enjoy. Quote
papsrus Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 After scrolling only so far as about the middle of the alphabetically listed album titles last night (a lot of dreck), I ended up snagging this: Sal Giorgianni -- 'Blue 'n' Boogie' I know zilch about the fella, but he seems to have been around. He plays tenor, here in a trio setting. Music has a bit of an edge to it. Falls into the category of, "It's free, why not?" Enjoyed it. Quote
