Kyo Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Already pre-ordered my copy (just EUR 32.99 from www.amazon.de). Really looking forward to this set! And the track listing means that I can finally get rid of my inexplicably Spanish copy of Stan Getz Plays... Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Already pre-ordered my copy (just EUR 32.99 from www.amazon.de). Unfortunately, the release date on Amazon Germany has been pushed back from February 22 to March 15. It was released on February 8 in the United States. Has anyone in the U.S. heard this set yet? Chuck Nessa Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I've listened to the first two discs while working - not really carefully - and it sounded good. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Hard bound book - 7.5 x 7.5 inches. 40+ pages with lots of period pictures, labels and covers. Quote
JSngry Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I've listened to the first two discs while working - not really carefully - and it sounded good. What was being done not really carefully, the work or the listening? Or both? I have days like that...today, in fact... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) The work was sloppy, the listening not really carefully. edit for typo Edited February 16, 2011 by Chuck Nessa Quote
jazzbo Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 The packaging is the same format as others in the series, for example the Nat, Ella and OP that I have. The sound, in my opinion, is very good. Very good. I'm really enjoying this set. Quote

Ron S Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I'm waiting for an unbelievably great bargain for this to be posted here by someone. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? http://www.youtube.c...feature=related Quote
John Tapscott Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I am listening to Discs 1 & 3, since Disc 2 is missing in my set. Sound is lovely, music is grand. After I finish listening to these CD's, I am returning it to Amazon for a replacement set. The packaging is nice, but a bit awkward. I'm not crazy about in-between size sets that don't quite fit anywhere properly. But I'm sure I'll find a place for it. A very nice set. Quote
crisp Posted February 16, 2011 Author Report Posted February 16, 2011 I'm waiting for an unbelievably great bargain for this to be posted here by someone. Sadly, for Hip-o boxes that Amazon.de price *is* unbelievably great. Twice that is the norm. I've gone for it anyway. Quote

It is a great deal, and on top of that Amazon Germany offer free shipping within Germany and to some of the neighbouring countries, including Austria, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands Quote
Head Man Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 It's £32 at Amazon.co.uk which is a 'NOT BAD' price. I've always loved Stan so I've ordered it, although it's currently out of stock. Quote

Yep, and since the box is over €20 shipping is free, that's why I didn't mention that condition. Quote
Ron S Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Not yet ready to pull the trigger on this one, myself, but I found a pretty good deal--about $36 shipped--for those who may be interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item45f8d113d4 I've made purchases from these guys in the past, and have always been very happy with them. Although based in Canada, they must be near the US-Canada border, because items have always been mailed quickly with tracking from an upstate-NY US Post Office. Quote
skeith Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I love "Stan Getz Plays" - is the other material on this set of that quality? Quote

Now listening to Disc 2 of the new set that was delivered to my office 2 hours ago. I really give Amazon.ca credit for customer sevice on this one. A new set delivered in 2 days. Of course, the fact that the Canadian Amazon warehouse is only 15 minutes from my office helps! Edited February 18, 2011 by John Tapscott Quote
Bol Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 The sound seems really good on this set. None of the hysterical, super-souped-up sound of some of the recent remasters that just tires you out. Whoever did this should get more opportunities to remaster old recordings. And the playing is wonderful. This is my favorite Stan Getz period, and it is really good to finally have the Interpretations sessions. Quote
skeith Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I'm diggin' it. And the sound is great. Quote
