scottb Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 7/4, I love that Junior Kimbrough disc. He's got a real unique rhythmic style. Not your typical twelve bar blues. "You might get raped yet' "Mister Junior, you don't have to rape me. I love you." (from "YOU BETTER RUN") Quote

tonym Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 I didn't actually receive any music cds this year. A transcriptions book perhaps. I was given some money though which today has been spently (partly) on Stan Getz's Bossa Nova Years box and Sweet Rain (according to a thread here, it's gonna be a while for the VME). My wife has bought me Belonging by Jarrett for my b'day. And I'll have enough cash left over for when I see some bargains online. all the best for the new year. Quote

patricia Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 I received no music this year. However, I was gifted with a voucher for the used vinyl emporium at which I score my growing collection of classic jazz records by my youngest daughter. She was raised right. Can't wait to go and peruse the shelves. Quote
DrJ Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 (edited) Lots of good stuff! The "big one": Anita O'Day - COMPLETE CLEF/VERVE SESSIONS (Mosaic). What a GREAT boxed set this is...I had held off on buying any of her sessions from this era awaiting this box, and it has NOT disappointed. Superb music, O'Day has rocketed to the top of my list of vocalists...Malcom Addey did his usual amazing sonic work, too. Pricey, but recommended HIGHLY. Baby Dodds - TALKING AND DRUM SOLOS (Atavistic) Red Rodney - 1957 (Classic Records DAD edition) Wadada Leo Smith - GOLDEN QUARTET w/DeJohnette, Davis, Favors (Tzadik) Benny Carter - 3,4,5: THE VERVE SMALL GROUP SESSIONS (Verve) Hamilton-Clayton Jazz Orchestra - GROOVE SHOP (Capri) Edited December 30, 2003 by DrJ Quote

connoisseur series500 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 None. I received all the important stuff that I should have been buying over the course of the year instead of jazz cds, such as clothes and such. I don't encourange my family to participate in my spending habits. I buy enough music on my own. Quote
vibes Posted December 31, 2003 Author Report Posted December 31, 2003 Came home from LA last night and found the "One Night With Blue Note" DVD and Dizzy Gillespie's "Have Trumpet, Will Excite" waiting for me from a relative. My wife always steers my relatives into buying things I want. Quote
