medjuck Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 I've had the Treasury Show Vol. 18 a couple of weeks, the Ellington and Strayhorn a week (pre-ordered them all). Quite nice each and every one! Would you please describe the Strayhorn material. Is any of it previously unreleased? Quote
jazzbo Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 Yes it does contain previously unreleased material, but not much of that necessarily from the Ellington configurations. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/out-of-the-shadows-by-chris-mosey.php#.U7V4txboYfE Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted July 5, 2014 Report Posted July 5, 2014 www.allegro-music.com will have it eventually. ImportCDs.com carries them. The US release date lags behind Europe so they haven't listed Vol.18 yet. Thanks! Quote
medjuck Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) I found vol 18 on Amazon US by searching for it specifically. It was available from the UK for less than $20 including shipping. And I almost immediately got an e-mail from the vendor saying: NOTE: Please ignore the Amazon delivery estimate of 18-26 days – we upgrade shipping so orders arrive usually within 5-12 business days as stated on the listing (US/Canada/Europe/Japan only). I'll let you know how long it actually takes. Edited July 29, 2014 by medjuck Quote
medjuck Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Got it today. About 10 days after ordering it. The notes begin by saying "The following three titles complete the broadcast of April 13" to which my immediate response was "So where's the rest of the broadcast?" Though the notes don't say so, a perusal of The New DESOR (The insanely well researched and nearly complete Ellington discography) leads me to believe that a couple of the Treasury Shows are no longer extant in their entirety. (Including it looks like, the very last show.) Quote

jazzbo Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) I have the Strayhorn box but have not yet fully explored it. It would be an incredible value if I did not already have a chunk of it, but I'm glad I have it and I think any fanatic of Ellington/Strayhorn recordings would want to have it. ghost of miles Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 I ordered V. 18 from avatarmusic and it shipped yesterday. Quote

I just ordered it from a European seller on U.S. Amazon. Looking forward to hearing it. Also ordered that new Duke Ellington 2-cd set on Storyville from a 1963 appearance in Sweden. gregmo Quote
jazzbo Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 You'll enjoy the Ellington, sound was better than I anticipated. Quote

ghost of miles Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Volume 19 now out on the Storyville site: http://www.storyvillerecords.com/products/the-treasury-shows-vol-19-9039019 Quote
king ubu Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 I'm like ... 13 volumes behind - but good to see the series continue Quote
jazzbo Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 Looking forward to it (and from another source than this one). Quote
gmonahan Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 Rather bizarrely, Amazon is only showing it for sale as an MP3 Download right now. gregmo Quote
jazzbo Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 We may have to wait as long as a month or more. . . but it will then be probably 12.99 or so. Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 Volume 21 now listed on the Storyville site--the extra material on both discs comes from 1942 performances: Duke Ellington Treasury Shows V. 21 Â Quote
gmonahan Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Thanks for posting this ghost, and kudos to Storyville for continuing this series! No sign of it yet on Amazon US, but I guess it will show up there eventually.   gregmo Quote
jazzbo Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Yes, it can take two to four weeks or more to show up on amazon.com . . . sometimes I can't wait, but when I do it is eventually cheaper for US residents from amazon.com (especially with Prime membership). Quote
medjuck Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Vol 20 took about 4 months  to show up on Amazon.  Quote
jazzbo Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 That's probably why I spent more and got it from Europe. Quote
alankin Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Importcds.com sometimes has them for less than on amazon. Quote
medjuck Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Amazon is now listing vol 21 for shipping in September. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Yes, I placed an order this morning. . . and it may go down or there may be better marketplace deals to come. Quote
alankin Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 It might be available later from importcds.com at a lower price ... they're not listing it yet though. Quote
