gmonahan Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 Still haven't gotten mine yet from Jazz Messengers. It's taking kind of a long time! gregmo Quote
jazzbo Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 I'm waiting for mine too Greg. . . that and the Mobley are anticipated greatly! Quote
gmonahan Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Listening to disc 2 of the new Treasury Shows set (vol 23), and I like it very much! For some reason, the sound seems even better on this one. Mind you, it's always been good on these! Quote
jazzbo Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Darn. My Jazz Messengers package was for some reason returned (local mail is weird here) and so I don't have this one yet. But glad to hear the sound is even better! Quote

Hope it comes soon! I'm listening to the Ellington "An Intimate Piano Session" cd right now. Very nice. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 I've a couple of weeks to wait I guess. Bur lots to listen to. Quote
Mark Stryker Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Gang: How many LPs were in the Treasury Shows series as originally released on D.E.T.S. in the plain white sleeves? And does anyone know when these LPs were released? I just acquired nearly the whole series at a fantastic price. A few gaps in the set that I'll have to fill in, but not that many ... Quote
jazzbo Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) I believe there were 49 total. It's hard to find when they were released, early eighties is my guess. Edited June 17, 2017 by jazzbo Quote
bluesoul Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 This eBay listing says there are 48 volumes plus a bonus LP of other radio broadcasts. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 That's what I thought, 49 total. That's a good price for the whole set in that condition! Must resist. .. I think I can resist as I have all the Storyville cds, a few Phontastic LPs and a number of those transferred to DVD-R. Quote
brownie Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 The LP series started in 1981 and kept publishing thru the decade. I had the full set and sold it with the rest of my vinyls. I am now getting the CDs with the added material. All invaluable music. God bless Jerry Valburn! Quote
Mark Stryker Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Thanks guys. Yeah, I noticed the price on the Ebay set -- excellent value, especially considering the remarkably quality of the music. Anyone who doesn't have this music should jump at that price. Quote

When accessed from here, the listing quotes an INTERNATIONAL shipping price of some $108. This would work out at just over $4 per LP to buyers from here and would even be tempting at that price per item (even if you'd have to allow for customs duty on top of that total - 20% or so). But I am VERY wary of that shipping figure being correct for a bunch of FORTY-NINE LPs. Edited June 17, 2017 by Big Beat Steve Quote
Don Brown Posted November 6, 2017 Report Posted November 6, 2017 I see that Volume 24 of the Duke Ellington Treasury Series is now available, but so far only from Storyville. Volume 24 has 42 tracks including bond promos. Most of the music comes from the Blue Note in Chicago in the summer of 1953. There is also bonus material from the Hurricane in New York City from April of 1944. Quote

alankin Posted November 6, 2017 Report Posted November 6, 2017 Volume 25 will be the last. Any ideas what will be on that one? Quote
Don Brown Posted November 6, 2017 Report Posted November 6, 2017 My understanding is that Volume 25 - the final volume in the Treasury series - will have more music by the 1953 band as well as more bonus material from the 1940s. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 I ordered DETS 24 from Amazon UK a couple of days ago for about $17, including shipping: Duke Ellington Treasury Shows V. 24 Quote
jazzbo Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 I got it in from Jazz Messengers last week. Another nice volume. Quote
alankin Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 It's on its way to me from jpc.de along with a couple other items. Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 1, 2018 Report Posted May 1, 2018 The end is near--V. 25 now listed on the Storyville site: D.E.T.S. Volume 25 Quote
medjuck Posted May 1, 2018 Report Posted May 1, 2018 I'm happy to see that cd 2 of this volume is from 1944 at the Hurricane rather than 1953 at the Blue Note. Makes me more excited to get it. Quote
