JSngry Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 I dunno, too many real victims in the world to trivialize the meaning of the word through less than accurate overuse. Same thing with "genius", seems that everybody has a claim laid to being one so they can claim the perks, but...really? There's enough addicts who are victims, not of their disease, but of criminally (literally, imo) inadequate treatment options and support systems if/when they try to get right. But I don't think that Amy Winehouse is that type of "victim". Quote

They either have to arrive at the realization that they need to get clean, or they ride the addiction clear to oblivion. True. Edited June 21, 2011 by 7/4 Quote
mjzee Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 The Jackass star could have killed other people while driving drunk. There's no excuse for that. Quote

JSngry Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 She's too sick to get any perspective on her situation. She can't see the forest for the trees. That's not because she's "sick", that's because she's high. Whatever sickness she has, it's not like she doesn't know what the options - and results - are. If she wants to kill herself, fine. She will, and it will be her choice. Quote

JSngry Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) That's by design. Edit to add that it's full by design just because I got tired of it always being full, so I just decided to let it stay full. There are other means of communication available. Edited June 21, 2011 by JSngry Quote
JSngry Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Thanks. It's only 20 minutes, but when when the self-entitled get in a hurry, not stretch of street is safe, especially when the light turns yellow... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Luckily my commute is trekking to the basement. Some day an EMT will have to drag me out of here. Quote
jlhoots Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 We have friends who have a Stanford graduate son who is an addict. No matter what they do, it doesn't change anything. It's what he won't do that's the issue (IMHO). Quote
Noj Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 My Uncle is addicted to prescription painkillers. The pills have made a mess of his filtration system, which has quite clearly affected his ability to reason. They've poisoned him, and he's completely detached from reality. Despite his career and friends/family relationships rapidly deteriorating, he's totally convinced he's right about everything. He can't be told anything. He's always right and has never been wrong once, in his eyes. Delusions of grandeur. Quote

papsrus Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Tragic, but entirely unsurprising, if true. Quote

JohnS Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 A tragedy but she was heading for self destruction. Quote
