Looking for the line-up of this gig... Smith is accompanied by an electric guitarist and a percussionist, both so far unidentified.

One possible hint might be this Boston Globe article about a show in Boston inDecember 1990:

Should be free to obtain this for subscribers... if you can help, drop me a PM please!

Any hints welcome!

Thanks!

I'll try to find something on Monday when I'm at work(academic library in Philly). There's nothing that I can find online right now. We have microfilms of the local independent newspapers. If there is any info available on that show it will be in one of them.

Sorry for the delay...

Well as it turns out the library doesn't have records for Philly's two independent/alternative newspapers going back to 1990. The records that are available only go back to 1995 & 2001. I checked the Philadelphia Inquirer online for the months of July and December 1990 - nothing. I also checked the Philadelphia Tribune (which is the Independent African American newspaper in Philly) and found nothing. So it looks like the newspaper archives for this time period are either not available or incomplete. As a result I can't give you a definite answer on whether the show happened or not.

I had a chance to ask Wadada Leo Smith (I assume we are talking about the same Leo?). He recalled the percussionist as Jumos Santos, and the guitarist as a Ghanaian by the name of "Quatry"-- strictly phonetic spelling.

Leeway,

Wasn't that concert at LC fabulous? All new music! Sorry I didn't catch you after the gig. I was trying to make some contacts for a concert series I'm trying to make happen.

Bertrand.

I was there too! But I wouldn't know my fellow O-Board people from Adam. I was in the second row.

Hey Bertrand, good to see you there. Sorry couldn't get a chance to hang; maybe next time. Ditto Mr. Frog.wink.gif

Wow, great! Thanks a lot! Will search at home later on if I can find any guitar player with a similar name...
