I got the Ramsey Lewis, and was not pleased, even at the price. It's really bad when you "upgrade" to the Real Gone Jazz sets, but that's what I did with the Lewis. Edited May 1, 2015 by felser Quote

BeBop Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 Black Saint/ Soul Note sale at ImportCDs. Prices look okay...but what do I know? ;-) Quote
BFrank Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 Those look like good prices to me, although more like 20% cheaper than you can get them from Amazon. Quote
BeBop Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 ...Which, when combined with some good music, makes them tempting. Quote
BFrank Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 I've been thinking about getting the George Adams and Don Pullen boxes - so maybe it's time. Quote
mjzee Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 I went for the Muhal, Cyrille and Threadgill. Quote
romualdo Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) Black Saint/ Soul Note sale at ImportCDs. Prices look okay...but what do I know? ;-) Amazon France has the Jimmy Lyons set for 16.47 euros & The Chico Hamilton one for 17.70 euros (once VAT removed) plus shipping (13 euros for both to Australia) - other sets not as cheap as these Interestingly, the most recent batch appears to be more expensive than previous releases Edited May 16, 2015 by romualdo Quote
felser Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 I went for the Muhal, Cyrille and Threadgill. That Cyrille set is spectacular. The Ed Blackwell is also really good. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 JPC in Germany sells the Bitches Brew 40th Anniversary Box set for € 16.90: Link Quote
mikeweil Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 I see amazon has it for a comparable price. Was it always that cheap? Are live parts available elsewhere? I'm not a Miles completist, so are they indispensable? Quote
sidewinder Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 The Tanglewood performance on that one is really nice, if you don't already have it. Quote
StarThrower Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 I went for the Muhal, Cyrille and Threadgill. That Cyrille set is spectacular. The Ed Blackwell is also really good. And the Richard Abrams set is terrific as well, so you should be very happy. I like the Air albums the most in the Threadgill box. The live set from Montreal sounds really great. I spent 100 dollars and got the Blackwell and Lacy Vol 2 sets from Grooves, Inc a couple months back. I'm pretty happy with both of them. The only Lacy album I 'm not crazy about is the 2 CD The Cry, Otherwise it's a great set. Quote
StarThrower Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Those look like good prices to me, although more like 20% cheaper than you can get them from Amazon. The Ed Blackwell box is actually 9 dollars cheaper from Amazon vendors. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 18, 2015 Author Report Posted May 18, 2015 I've never before seen Amazon charge so little for an OAS-type box.
