aurelio Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Just ordered the set, jazzbo's calculation was exact, $64.10 total to the US. Great deal! Quote
gmonahan Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 You guys are nuts! The rust box was the worst package EVER created, and the accompanying booklet was incredibly difficult to read. Music, of course, was wonderful. That was one of the first ones I ever bought that I repackaged into jewel boxes. gregmo Quote
etherbored Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 I hate to disappoint you all, but you do realize all these Universal Italy sets (Dolphy, Rollins, et al) are housed in cardboard, right? Quote
Fer Urbina Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Now that there's even a cheaper version of Clifford Brown's complete EmArcy recordings, originally released by PolyGram/Japan, wouldn't it be nice if they did the Roland Kirk and the Keynote boxes... F Quote
GA Russell Posted March 16, 2014 Author Report Posted March 16, 2014 Chet Baker - The Riverside/Jazzland Albums 20.78 eu http://www.amazon.it/The-Riverside-Jazzland-Chet-Baker/dp/B005R34L82/ref=wl_mb_hu_m_12_dp Quote
Fer Urbina Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Apparently, the Clifford Brown (going for €27.56 in Amazon.it, 24.72 quid in Amazon.co.uk) is a verbatim replica of the Japanese PolyGram set (click for image). Is there an "official" list of these reissues by Universal Italy? F PS A low price Dinah Washington would be quite something.. Quote
colinmce Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Helen Merrill, too. I sort of gave up on that one. Quote
Head Man Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Helen Merrill, too. I sort of gave up on that one. No, don't give on that one...keep it on your "must have" list! Quote
king ubu Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Is there an "official" list of these reissues by Universal Italy? Don't think so ... the universalmusic.it site is messy ... but after all the discussion about these sets, we really should start a dedicated thread and try and put together a list in the opening post! Got lucky a few years back, finding the vinyl box for 30 something euros (a gamble, as it was an online order - but all was good). Quote
David Ayers Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 i don't think we discussed it but universal.it have also done the Miles Prestige box. Quote

romualdo Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 Universal Italy is at it again: http://www.amazon.it/The-Complete-Verve-Evans-Bill/dp/B00IK5I0OA/ Wow!! - have been waiting for something like this - Went for it!! I still remember seeing one of the original "Metal" copies here in Brisbane in the late 90's - you could see rust already forming through the plastic wrapping (reminded me of PIL's "Metal Box" -> my copy is quite rusty now after almost 35 years) Anyway, it was way too expensive for me at the time though I would have loved to get the music, so now that's possible & at a very affordable price Once VAT was removed the cost came down to Euros 34.35 (plus E14 shipping) Quote
sidewinder Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 I've wanted a copy of the Evans box for years but could never justify paying £350+ for it. 40 Euros is the dog's b*llox.. Quote
mjzee Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I noticed on the Amazon Japan website that they have 5 copies of the Ray Charles: Pure Genius box for 3,626 yen, which seems like a steal (especially for Japanese pressings). http://www.amazon.co.jp/Pure-Genius-Completed-Recordings-1952-60/dp/B007TLCU2Y/ref=pd_sim_m_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=1G2DN98TTHWEDFA481A1 Quote

Fer Urbina Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 By the way, the cheaper version of the Bill Evans Complete Verve Box does not carry liner notes. Only discographical info. (No complaints at that price). F Quote
