The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 Whoa! Conrad Lester too!?!?!?!?! That's my kind of lounge! I have a beat-up copy of a Joe Carroll LP on Epic, so this was not his only leader date. Not sure of there were any more though. I agree that for me, a little Joe Carroll goes a long way. But I fully enjoy going there with that little bit. Yesssss! That Joe Carroll has been one of my favourites for many a decade. It's available on Collectables (or was) - shouldn't be hard to get. Bigshot Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 The Complete Charlie Parker Records Collection (30 CDs) for $49.99 at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Charlie-Parker-Records-Complete-Collection/dp/B006ZUKBJ4/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389284682&sr=1-1&keywords=complete+charlie+parker+records Do any of you know what is the overlap between this set and Membran's 100-CD set, World's Greatest Jazz Collection: Bebop Story? I found little discussion about this set on Organissimo - someone had provided a link to the track listing, but the link no longer works and I have been unable to find any detailed track listing for this set, which sells for $89.99 on Amazon. It's not likely that they are the same masterings. Membran has gone through some changes since those 100 CD boxes. The sound quality has improved significantly. Quote

JSngry Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 http://www.berkshirerecordoutlet.com/search.php?submit=Find&brocode=148353&show=1 EMI/Angel 50 CD Beethoven box for less than $1.00/disc (pre-shiiping, about $1.25/disc with shipping). For the major works, best to look for quality over quantity, this is not one-stop shopping, this isn't, no way, don't even go there, but there''s enough here to still be a good investment, just to get basic familiarity with overall output. Or, if you're one of those people for whom interpretational differences is irrelevant and/or unnoticeable, hey, there's a buttload full of Beethoven all up in here, so saddle up, Fidelio, let's ride. YEE-HAW! Quote
Bigshot Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 By the way, for the folks with the Charlie Parker Records box, the mono material sounds a lot better if you rip it to true mono instead of the way it's presented on the disks. When they did the transfer from LPs, they transferred in stereo. If you sum the channels together to create true mono it cuts the surface noise in half. Quote

JSngry Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Damn...I might too...I don't even love bill Evans, but the respect for/price-per-disc ratio is really favorable on that one...consider the Tetanus Booster Not Required factor and we might have a winner here, perhaps... Quote

I certainly don't need any more Bill Evans, I already have 39 discs worth. This is probably one of those things that would be listened to once and then sit collecting dust for years before a handful of discs are cherry picked from it again. That being said, is there international shipping and if so, how much? Edited March 16, 2014 by mikelz777 Quote

jazzbo Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 I like the rusty case too. By my calculations it would cost 64.10 total to the US (today's conversion rate). Quote
