colinmce Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 Still can't quite beat when bestbuy.com listed the Coltrane Side Steps box for $13. Quote
Bright Moments Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Pop Market has the Van Cliburn complete album box set for 49.99. Thanks Lon!!! I jumped on this!!!! Quote
Matthew Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Any thoughts on this Bill Withers box? Not jazz, exactly, but his hits have a nice feel to them. 9 discs, $23.30 from an Amazon reseller: I did't see this until today, but by all means, get this box set if you haven't yet, I have enjoyed it immensely since I purchased it, great music runs through every album. Bob_Bobson Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Apparently, I'm very late to the party on this (I discovered several threads on this subject from around 2010-2011 after the fact), but there are a few Mosaic sets available on iTunes at a steep discount. In particular, Stanley Turrentine is $19! That is impulse-buy territory. Should I be boycotting this, however, in solidarity with Mosaic? Quote
Bob_Bobson Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Solidarity it is, at least so long as the sets are still in print. Gotta support the people who make the sets possible in the first place. http://talkingnewmedia.blogspot.com/2011/08/keeping-catalog-alive-in-itunes.html Quote
jazzbo Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 My guess is that this is EMI just finding another outlet for the product so I'm not sure anyone is "betraying Mosaic" by buying some of these files. I wouldn't do it, but that's because I don't like digital files more than anything else. Quote

I can live with the digital files, as long as they are stored on a compact disc and placed in a numbered black box with a big picture book. ;-) Quote

ornette Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) Completely off topic but I've never understood why the iTunes store has never allowed searching by record label. On Amazon UK search on mp3 music/'blue note'/mp3 albums/price 'high to low' to find a few box set equivalents. Edited March 22, 2013 by ornette Quote
colinmce Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 There is a Jazztet Mosaic at Reckless.com for $150. Not a bad price for a scarce one. Quote
JohnJ Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Ok, a real bargain for once but don't expect it to last. The 20 CD 'Perfect Miles Davis Collection' for just over 5 pounds on Amazon UK. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Perfect-Miles-Davis-Collection/dp/B005ELZNH0/ref=pd_sim_m_h__3 Quote

As someone who resold a bunch of discs like Milestones, Someday My Prince Will Come for the remasters some 12 years ago or whenever it was, that just blows my mind? I hope there are a few lurking with 5 quid in pocket who decide maybe just maybe I should check this Miles guy out more in depth. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) For anyone in the UK, that deal is effectively a freebie, as the postage would be at least £5. Unbelievable ! Miles Davis on Columbia quantitative easing perhaps? Edited March 27, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
erwbol Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 That Davis set would make for a wonderful gift. I think I'll order two for that purpose. Quote
erwbol Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 A few hours after I placed my order for two of the Davis sets the price is up again from £5.12 to £29.52. Thanks, JohnJ. Quote
erwbol Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 Amazon.co.uk cancelled the order stating the item was incorrectly priced. Oh well, I can't blame them. Quote

GA Russell Posted March 31, 2013 Author Report Posted March 31, 2013 This looks interesting for fans of the old TV show Secret Agent aka Danger Man. It's a 5-CD soundtrack box. Danger Man: Original Music from the Hour-Long Episodes - 31.64 GBP (about $49.99) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001S3OKWW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Quote

ornette Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 The Complete Original Mahavishnu Orchestra Columbia Albums Collection £14.78 from Amazon UK. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Original-Mahavishnu-Orchestra-Collection/dp/B0080R7Q4S/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1366348636&sr=1-3&keywords=mahavishnu+orchestra The pricing for these box sets is all over the place. The Brubeck set (currently £155) was advertised and reviewed in Jazzwise this month which suggests it might come down in price. Quote
crisp Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 Sony seems to be reissuing a number of the Popmarket boxes for some reason. I've preordered the Paul Desmond one at £21.47 as it's a better price than previously. Quote

The Brubeck is much cheaper on amazon.it (81€ at this time): http://www.amazon.it/Complete-Columbia-Studio-Albums-Collection/dp/B0077PPQGO/ But these boxes aren't even listed on all amazon sites yet ... @crisp: Do you think these are indeed reissues? I'd rather assume that after selling them exclusively via popmarket, they're now being sold with wider distribution ... Quote
