ghost of miles Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 I had a problem with track 1 on disc 1 skipping the first two times I played it--but on subsequent replays it didn't skip, leading me to think that the problem most likely stems from my rapidly-aging CD player. The packaging/box itself was fine; no problems there. Quote
mr jazz Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Everything ok here but haven't played all discs yet Quote
Big Wheel Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Mine (Nat Cole Hip-O) arrived this morning. Thanks again, Edward! F You are all very welcome. It shows that it pays to maintain (and regularly check) a wishlist on Amazon. Or you could use the Amazon price tracker at camelcamelcamel.com, which sends you emails or tweets automatically when the price of stuff on your list goes below a certain level. My new favorite site. mellowT Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Have you guys noticed that jayandmarie on eBay seem to have found a fairly large stash of Mosaic Select - Piano Trios? The price has steadily decreased over the last 6 weeks worth of 5-day auctions. The last three sold in the $35 range (down from a high of $86), what I would consider a bargain for one of those sets that suddenly went OOP a couple of autumns ago. Next auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310314153751 What you get: a sealed set with the UPC blotted out, slightly banged up because it gets shipped in a CD-sized bubble envelope instead of the box it deserves. colinmce Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I have seen that. Gerry Mulligan, too. Now where is that mountain of Freddie Slack and Johnny Richards? Quote

mjzee Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 This one looks interesting: 40 CDs for $27.08. I like Vivaldi, so I may pick it up. Quote
alankin Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) Besides the Vivaldi Edition, Amazon also has pre-orders for some other Brilliant Classics boxes: Complete Beethoven Edition (85 CDs for $29.57 [!], Grumiaux, Haitink, Vpo and Schiff) Telemann Edition (31 CDs for $26.84) Handel Portrait (42 / $27.07, Preston, Holloway, Borgstede, etc.) Liszt Portrait (31 / $26.84, Brendel, Cziffra, Pizarro and Berma) Anyone familiar with any of these? Stefan Wood Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Here is a review of the Vivaldi box, which seems pretty good, as a whole. Quote

I dont know these specific sets but in general I have good experience with Brilliant Classic. Maybe the performances they include in their sets are not considered to be the best available but they are certainly good performances and with an excellent sound quality. Regarding Franz Liszt set: I have a set with all his Transcendental Etudes played by Georges Cziffra. If these recordings are included, I can definitely recommend (Cziffra's name is mentioned there). alankin Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Unfortunately, Amazon removed from sale the above cheap Brilliant Classics sets. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Probably double checking the prices and/or the release date. Quote
mjzee Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Unfortunately, Amazon removed from sale the above cheap Brilliant Classics sets. Interesting. And the Russian Legends live box that I got for $53.99 is now $179.99 at the cheapest. Anyway, I ordered the Vivaldi at the low price, so we'll see if it ships. My Casals box is still on backorder. greggery peccary Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 I'm glad to have ordered the Beethoven and Vivaldi boxes. Wish now that I'd have sprung for the Handel too. Not likely to see those prices again. Quote
mellowT Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Miles and Trane - Complete Columbia Recordings 12.99 UK pounds. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004LR5JZO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE I ordered mine from U.S. Amazon on April 2 for $21.51, as it was slightly cheaper with the free shipping. It was a preorder expected to be released on April 5. I'm still waiting for Amazon to ship it. They are "temporarily out of stock". Well, they never had stock to begin with. Meanwhile, the U.K. site has it 2 pounds cheaper at 10.99. If anyone is thinking about this set, I'd order it from there or one of the Amazon Marketplace sellers. Quote
IanFenton Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Sorry if this has come up already but I was just wondering if anyone had taken advantage of the recent run of Concord boxes that have appeared in Italy.
