He was still playing really well at that point, especially on the earliest albums on that box. These were recorded right after his magnificent run of Steeplechase albums. The Village Vanguard double album with Woody Shaw's group is absolutely essential, and you get the latest remaster in this box. 1 hour ago, GA Russell said: Weather Report - Columbia Albums 1971-1975 7 CDs - $28.45 + $3.99 https://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Albums-1971-1975-Weather-Report/dp/B0CZY4CHJK/ Highly recommended in every regard. Ken Dryden
This is only a 2 CD set, not a boxed set, but it is a new copy from Dusty Groove at a very low price of $0.99:

clifford_thornton
I assume they're deletions/cut-outs. Honestly surprised Delmark has kept going after Koester's death and in the current market.

I thought that I read that it was taken over by a young couple quite a while back who are devoted to keeping the label alive. Chuck would know more of course. From Wikipedia: In May 2018, Koester retired and sold Delmark Records to Delmark Records LLC, of which Julia A. Miller is the Managing Member. Julia A. Miller became the label President & CEO and Elbio Barilari became the Vice President & Artistic Director. They are two musicians from Chicago and Uruguay, respectively. The sale included Delmark's subsidiary labels, CD and LP inventory, the catalog of masters, and Riverside Studio

Thanks for your rating, Can you exyplain that a bit more. I have the Cal Thader & Horace Silver box. The sound is not bad here. I do no shootouts just to compare because sooner or later your hearing ability will not hear any changes anymore due to aging. and some original Blue notes are ridiculous in price + postage to get them here in Europe. The sound is OK, they're no doubt straight MP3 transfers from the original CD releases according to Euro PD laws. The notes, discographical info, artwork, etc. are sorely lacking. Other Membran sets just randomly mix titles together. There are higher and lower quality Euro PD labels as far as those considerations (which are important to me). Fresh Sound is the gold standard, often far surpassing the quality of the original CD releases. Avid sets are nice. Enlightenment is basic, but they do have the original album covers, now have full personnel listings, they fill up the CD's (often exceeding 80 minutes) and their album groupings are very logical. Real Gone Jazz (now defunct, I believe) are on the same level as Enlightenments, with original album covers and personnel listings in place, but they have more random groupings of albums and often don't use the capacity of the CD wisely, plus they will often cut up an album between two CD's when there was no reason to do so. If the Fresh Sound releases are too expensive for you, I would go with Avid, Enlightenment, and Real Gone Jazz (who later renamed themselves Reel to Reel). Sound quality is generally acceptable on all of this stuff, because all the labels pull it from the same sources.

I do agree that the original coverart and the liners are missing. But I dont think to rate 'Membran / The Intense Media' as 'junk'. Have many Fresh sounds too (also from their beginning viny era with replica coverart). I dont hear so much difference compared Fresh Sound with Membran. So for collecting them only for a decent jazzmusic reproduction they seems ok for me. Others my see it different. Living in Europe Fresh Sound is easy to get for me. BTW have also an AVID JATP box. All I can say very good. Edited October 31 by jazzcorner typos
