Ok, what who is this "Hamilton Book"...are they the new Daedalus, a book/music company that specializes in a healthy stock of "remainders" and "overstocks" and "cutouts" and such?

I used to love to shop Daedalus when they carried a lot of "real" labels, befire they shifted to all the EuroPDMusiPorn.

Tell me that "HamiltonBook" might be worth my time, please?

If anything, Daedaus was the new Hamilton.  I used to order from the Hamilton catalog (printed, mailed out) 25-30 years ago.  Totally reputable, sometimes have some great items, always good prices.  I've had less involvement with them in the mature internet age, and they dropped me from their mailing list some years ago.

ok, good to know, thanks.

I did some browsing and alas, they have a LOT of the Blight Boxes, but enough legit side-pocket stuff that I could see an order.

CD's and DVD's are more a sideline for them.  Their strength is books.

Jim, a great many of their books go for less than six dollars.  I buy a few every month or two for my nieces and nephews for Christmas, and just let them stack up in my closet.  On Christmas Day, the kids love Uncle Russ!

What has kept me away is the film soundtrack music on the second disc.  Please report back on that after you give it a listen!

John, I opened up Disc B on May 5 last week.

Because I liked the band so much at the time, my curiosity is a big factor in my opinion.  I would have loved to have all this music then.  But today, I find the film soundtrack more interesting than pleasant to listen to.

I can recommend this to the group's fans, but I don't think people here who are unfamiliar with the band would find this box particularly appealling.  I would strongly recommend that they get copies of the band's two released albums instead.

Thanks for the update!  Confirms my suspicions, so I know now that if I were to buy this, it would only be for the first disc.  Noticed that you listend to the second disc exactly one year after the first disc - was that by design?

I had the pleasure of shopping at Daedalus in Columbia, MD. I sure miss that place.

Yes!  I met and chatted for an hour with Manfred the afternoon of May 5, 1970.  That evening I saw the band play at George Washington University, and Manfred let me plug my cassette recorder into his system!  Great memories.

Roscoe Mitchell - Conversations (2 CDs) - $9.95

Thanks for the reminder about Hamilton Books. I used to get their catalog in the mail but I found it so poorly laid out that I never did buy anything. Daedalus rarely interests me anymore since they dropped music after focusing on all the European P.D. sets instead of offering bargains of US CDs and boxed sets. Hamilton's book selection is far better than what Daedalus has offered over the past year or so.

I just placed my first order.

I remember how happy "everybody" was about tighter inventory controls and production runs thanks to UPC codes and centralized computer reports and all that....market efficiencies. Waste would be reduced, if not eliminated entirely.

Well, there's something to be said about waste.

One company's inventory trash is another person's cutout bin treasure.   Nothing matches the old thrill of finding a Blue Note album I never knew existed sitting in a $1 cutout bin.

Yeah, I think part of the reason the outlets got loaded up with all that offbrand eurocrap was that at some point that was all they had for available new inventory. The real labels cut out their waste and stores like these had to have inventory, and there THAT stuff was.
