bertrand Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 One more chance to catch Freddie Redd in the DC/Baltimore area tomorrow night. He will be at the Cyclops bookstore at 8:00 PM with Curtis Lundy, Eric Kennedy and special guest Tim Green. The address is 30 West North Avenue (corner of Maryland Avenue). Bertrand. P.S. I have no financial interest in this gig. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 I seen this band. They sound real nice, but Freddie doesn't do any talking. He leaves it up to Lundy. Quote
bombdiggity Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the heads up on the show. I seen this band. They sound real nice, but Freddie doesn't do any talking. He leaves it up to Lundy. Freddie let's the musical director queue the show but does move the music. He's quite friendly and talkative off the stand. I found him very nice and quite willing to converse. I wish I'd done an interview and may try that some time. Edited November 5, 2010 by bomb Quote
bertrand Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 Hardbopjazz, Are you sure you saw him with Curtis Lundy? At what venue was that? I was under the impression he had not played with this group before. He has been doing gigs in D.C. and NYC with saxophonist Brad Linde. Could that be the group you saw at Dizzy's, Smalls' or Birdland? Bertrand. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Sorry. This was the band at Smalls in NYC and at Dizzy's also in NYC. Freddie Redd- p Brad Linde- ts Chris Byars- as Ari Roland- b Stefan Schatz- d Quote
bertrand Posted November 6, 2010 Author Report Posted November 6, 2010 Thanks. That makes more sense. Brad was the announcer. Chris and Brad are actually performing octet arrangements of Freddie's music this w/e at Smalls'. Sacha Perry is on piano. Bertrand. Quote
