Mark Stryker Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 (edited) Speaking of not mistaking niceness for weakness, Basie's time is incredibly strong in the opening sequence of "Whirlybird" that started this thread. I mean, everything he plays whether he's moving "slow" or "fast," perfectly clarifies where the beat is and what the tempo is. The time of the entire band is emanating from the piano bench. Smile, Count. You're on Candid Camera 50 years later and you're killin' it. Edited May 6, 2017 by Mark Stryker Quote
Stereojack Posted May 7, 2017 Report Posted May 7, 2017 Have always loved Jaws' sultry contribution to this track! Quote
JSngry Posted July 25, 2017 Author Report Posted July 25, 2017 Hey Lock! I let this band move in because of the solos, but I got married to it because of the heads, and that's all Jaws. Johnny Griffin certainly needed nobody to play lead for him, but Lock took it anyway, and Griff went right along. That shit is just right! Quote
