Bookshelf system recommendations?

I'm looking to replace an older Aiwa unit I have and wanted to get some opinions on a new bookshelf-size system.

I've only got about $300-$400 to spend and the only "must haves" are: it has to be a multi-disc system and it must have that function that plays back all CDs at the same level when more than one are loaded into the player at the same time, if you know what I mean.

I'm not a big audiophile, but I do want to get the most out of my $$$.
