tooter Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 So here is the most recent addition to the picture gallery, courtesy as usual of Couw for the necessary improvements. Of those that we are still looking for, probably the one I would most like to find is now [Don Rendell Presents the Jazz Six]. I've got all the music but have no idea what the cover picture looks like even, as was the case with [Playtime] until last week. Keep your eyes open please ! Quote
tooter Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 (edited) New album cover picture found - Louis Armstrong Conection Volume Two. Not too good but better than nothing! Edited to replace picture with the correct version - volume 2, not Volume 3 I had before which Ronnie Ross did not appear on as far as I know. Edited May 18, 2005 by tooter Quote
tooter Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 And another, although this one has only one track with Ronnie Ross and was included in the list together with "Doggin' Around" so does not reduce the total. Still looking for "Doggin' Around" cover picture of course. Quote
tooter Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 (edited) And so finally here is the up-to-date list of the cover pictures we are still looking for. Please let me know if you see any or know where I could perhaps get them from. (list moved to latter post - June 2) Edited June 2, 2005 by tooter Quote
tooter Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Yet another cover picture found. Not a very exciting one but it is another gap filled. One from the latter part of Ronnie's career. Quote
tooter Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) And here again is the now shorter list of those still sought. From the Louis Armstrong Connection series we are only looking for Volume 6 now. (20) (list removed - superseded) Edited June 10, 2005 by tooter Quote
tooter Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 Yet another picture, this time from the newest member of the RR search team, Nao in Japan. This one doesn't reduce the total still sought as it is an EP of tracks also contained in Johnny Keating and the All Stars (56/1) but is a most welcome additional adornment. Here it is... Quote
tooter Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 New picture obtained - 75/2 in the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography - and this one does reduce the total yet to be found. Now only twenty two! Quote
tooter Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 (edited) Twenty one today! That's all on the list I am still looking for now. Here it is:- (moved to later post August 10 2005) Edited August 10, 2005 by tooter Quote
tooter Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 And here is the newest additon to our picture library, obtained from a contact "elsewhere". Quote
tooter Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 I deleted the album "Drinka Lita Roza Day" from the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography because I thought it unlikely that it would be jazz, although I've never heard it. It came up on eBay - picture below - and looked as though it just might include some jazz. Too expensive for me and it has been sold now. This is a very long shot I know but is anyone familiar with it - heard it or owns it perhaps? Is it a jazz record? Quote
tooter Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 So here's another question that is unlikely to elicit any answers I know. It will keep this thread nearer to top of the pile though. "Prudence and the Pill" - This album turned up on eBay a little while ago but I missed winning the auction in the last few seconds. The description said that there are jazz solos by someone on a Hammond B3, Ronnie Ross, Danny Moss and Ernie Shear on guitar but as movie music it looked a bit doubtful to me for inclusion in a jazz discography.www.ronnieross.com Once again, if anyone knows about the content of the album and can give any idea as to its suitability, it would be very nice to hear from them. Does anyone remember the movie even? Quote
sidewinder Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 (edited) I think I might have seen this one on TV years ago Rodney but it was obviously really bad as my recollections are almost zero. Seem to recall Judy Geeson featuring in it but not a lot else ( ). It's the sort of tripe the BBC put out just after midnight during weekdays along with sleezy movies featuring Robin Asquith ( ). Can't recall anything of the soundtrack. Here's a few details: Prudence A date of 1968 sets it as recorded at around the same time as Ronnie's 'Cleopatra's Needle'. The omens are therefore good - but then who can tell.. Edited July 17, 2005 by sidewinder Quote
Guest Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 (edited) Some more info on the movie. It was a disaster, it seems. Quote from the review: "Prudence and the Pill was not only unfunny, but was rendered anachronistic within a year of its release" Prudence Edited July 17, 2005 by naos Quote

And quite a risque picture for the sixties. Thanks for the gen, Bob (not a sixties word - even earlier!). Quote
tooter Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 Some more info on the movie. It was a disaster, it seems. Quote from the review: "Prudence and the Pill was not only unfunny, but was rendered anachronistic within a year of its release" Prudence ← Two posts! Good! I was thinking about taking out a lease here Now that I read the plot synopsis, it seems dreadfully familiar. Surely I couldn't have seen it myself and not even noticed the soundtrack? I probably read about the story and decided not to view. Late sixties - no videos even, at that time. But that puts me in a much better position if it comes up on eBay again to decide whether the price is worth it or not. Domo arigato for the input, Naos. Quote
tooter Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Another cover picture of a kind. It is of one side of a 78 which contains two of the tracks from the session. The four tracks in the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography www.ronnieross.com are from two sessions in October 1956 so I assume they were put together as an EP which would have had a cover, whereas the 78 just came in the usual brown paper that I vaguely remember. So this "picture" does not reduce my list of still wanted as the EP cover has not yet surfaced. I live in hope. Quote
tooter Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 And, thanks to King Ubu , more details have become available on items in the 1965 section (65/1 and 65/2) of the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography www.ronnieross.com. I have yet to include them because I am living in hopes of getting the actual recordings from the same source and will then I expect be able to verify even more details by listening . Quote
tooter Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 (edited) So just to round things off here is the current list of cover pictures still sought. Please keep your eyes open during your surfing for any of these. I will eagerly follow up any hint of a find. Be nice to get down to twenty, or below even. List transferred to later post. August 26. tooter Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 And here I am again already, posting succulent morsels of news on Ronnie Ross front. An album unknown to me has surfaced; unfortunatley not unknown material but I have added it to the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography at the expense of a morning's work. The cover picture is displayed below. Quote
tooter Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 As presaged by Sidewinder, the album "Thames Suite" has been issued on CD and I now have a new picture posted in the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography as below. I did not have this on my sought for list as I had one already but it did have a severe glare problem right in the middle so this one is much better. List is still at twenty one. Quote
tooter Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 (edited) Another request for help. Can anyone make this picture clear enough to read? I'm particularly interested in track 5 of Side 1 and the details which come after the title - "Majo Taj" I think it is - but to be able to read it all would be good. It comes from here. tooter Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 That sophisiticated software one sees in the movies where a filter runs through a picture making it clearer at each stage is apparently not around here then? Been watching too many i guess. Quote
tooter Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 But the good news is that another cover picture has become available. Thanks to Couw's usual expert picture manipulation input, it has been processed and is now on the website www.ronnieross.com, in the Jazz Discography at 57/1. This gives me a full set for that year and brings the total I'm still looking for down to twenty only. Unfortunately, the album itself on eBay has already gone too high for me and looks as if it might go a lot higher yet. Particularly glad to get this one though as it is an out and out jazz album from an important period. Quote
