brownie
Coming up very soon this 3CD set from Rare Live Recordings: Question now is: will Sue take revenge?
romualdo
Looks like this will be rip/needle drop from another pirate? 4LP set (BAT 5/8) called "The Complete Birdland Sessions" plus extra titles hopefully - it was supposed to have been released as a 200 ltd edn set (Lord Discography) Edited October 26, 2010 by romualdo
AllenLowe
it's supposed to have Knepper, Roland Kirk, Booker Ervin, I think. How was the sound on those originals?
John L
The sound on the tapes that I have is fair-good. It is good enough to hear clearly what is happening. Jazz View released some of this material on CD before in its "historical masters" series: Edited October 26, 2010 by John L
JSngry
The material I've heard has been in good-enough sound. It also documents Toshiko's passing through the Mingus orb.
brownie
The Charlies Mingus Birdland Broadcasts were detailed on this site! Presume the 3CD set will have all that has been available on the various bootlegs!
kh1958
I have a 3 CD bootleg CD Rom of this material that I found used a few years ago. I would suspect this is a copy of that "release." The sound was okay for the most part but sounds like it might be a few generations of copies down the line from the original.
AllenLowe
I have some of that with McPherson, but would love to hear the Booker Ervin stuff.
king ubu
A cleaned up official release of this material would be terrific!
jazzbo
I agree, but if I were the one putting this out I'd be sure to hire security that was Sue Mingus-proof.
king ubu
On the other hand, she's not been doing much to spread Mingus' own music in the past years... a release in 1997, the Cornell set, the UCLA... , still not easy to find the Monterey 1965, still no sign of "My Favorite Quintet" or any more official 1964 sets. I guess she wasn't involved in the two 2CD sets released/reissued by Universal France (the 1970 band with Bobby Jones and the 1964 Great Paris Concert). Of course what she does with the Mingus Big Band is great, but I'd really wish she'd have made use of the CD boom from the mid 90s to the mid 00s and put out some Mingus releases. Nowadays, I guess it's too late anyway...
jazzbo
I was joking. . . she's done practically nothing. But she's probably doing what she can and wants to, which is her elder stateswoman right. It would be great if she would delegate and oversee work on getting more Mingus out there officially, but she may not want to waste waning energy on something the pirates aren't going to stop doing anyway. John L
A cleaned up official release of this material would be terrific! A cleaned up official release from Rare Live Recordings?
king ubu
That's why I wrote "would be" since this is NOT it.
kh1958
An official release of his Newport appearances would be nice as well. And some live concerts from the Changes band. Plus the Ronnie Scotts recordings by Columbia that were never released at all.
king ubu
Yes indeed! At least the Newport and Ronnie Scott's stuff is around in very good quality! And of course there are good quality Adams/Pullen boots around... not my favorite era of Mingus though. I guess many of you witnessed that band live, but I'm too young for that. Might have another stance if this were different.
clifford_thornton
Those BAT records are f'in impossible to dig up. I'd be into hearing this.
Hoppy T. Frog
How about somebody volunteer to buy this from the Andorran pirates and then send rips around?
PHILLYQ
I'd love to see the release of the entire concert of 'at Carnegie Hall'. I was at the gig and Mingus did a set with his band before the jams that was smokin' hot. I can only hope...

kh1958
It would be nice to hear any well recorded performance by the group with Adams/Pullen and Hamiett Bluiett.
Tom in RI
I remember Columbia released some Boris Rose Charlie Parker material way back when (One Night at Birdland). Has any other Rose material seen major label release?
