JJ Johnson - Blue Trombone

The tune "Blue Trombone" is a prime example of JJ's compositional style of improvising- it's a long blues in F and each chorus has a specific motive which he develops. I've transcribed it and have had several students do the same over the years. It's a great lesson in making a solo be "about" something.

And the cover is totally cool as well. I have it on the Mosaic but had to buy a copy of the single when it was reissued just to have that cover. Wish I had that one on LP!
