neveronfriday Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Enough Henderson on Victor for French RCA to release a double CD a few years ago... I still love those "Jazz tribune" twofers. I bought a massive number a few years back - for "an apple and an egg" as we say around here - and they've been good to me. ... Nostalgia. *sigh* Edited October 27, 2010 by neveronfriday Quote
king ubu Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Lunceford Decca is terrific news - although with brownie's help I got his run of Masters of Jazz... the prospect of a Mosaic set is great! Some of the very finest big band jazz ever recorded! Would they be able to work from original masters, or were they destroyed in the Universal fire? Quote
gmonahan Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 1927 - 3 titles 1931 - 8 titles 1932 - 6 titles 1934 - 4 titles 1936 - 15 titles And I know of 11 alternates. There was a US Bluebird vinyl issue similar to the set Brownie mentioned. Thanks Chuck. I don't know how I missed these. Seems like he was under contract to other labels when he made these? Or were they recorded in between? Or maybe under a different name? All of the above? None of the above?! gregmo Quote

In 1934 there are 3 Decca Sessions in a row. In 1936 3 Victor sessions. And in 1937/1938 6 sessions in a row for Vocalion. In the 20's it is a patch work. Henderson recorded a lot for a lot of labels. I stopped counting at 15. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) No contracts is probably the correct answer. I will see if Walter Allen has anything to say about this. Edited October 28, 2010 by Chuck Nessa Quote
Tjazz Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 RCA did a Glenn Miller Army Air Force band box in 1955. 1955? I just picked up this 5 LP box set for $3 (LPs nice, but box damaged). Quote
SwingItTrev Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Very interesting the mention that Scott Wenzel is working on a Jimmie Lunceford set! That news has made my day! Quote
