chris Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 (edited) If you listen to jazz online-- be it streaming audio channels, radio, specific shows you can listen to online-- can you point me to some of the good stuff? Finding jazz that isn't smooth on our local stations is very rare indeed... Edited December 17, 2003 by chris Quote
alejo Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Here are a few radio stations that stream non-elevator type jazz on the Web at various times throughout the day. KBCS out of Bellevue, WA plays jazz most weekday mornings until 12:00 PST. WKCR out of New York plays a lot of jazz and experimental music throughout the day. You can also access their birthday marathon archives. Check out WFMU’s schedule for jazz line up. They have a great soul music show on Fridays nights. I listen to WKCR the most. They have a lot of extremely knowledgeable DJs. Some DJs like Phil Schaap know a little bit too much and let you, and the musicians they are interviewing, know it. Jim Alfredson Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 There's a cool internet only station I listen to called "Leslie Overdrive". It's on the Live365 website. Sometimes James (the dj) plays some cheesy stuff, but he also plays some real greasy Hammond organ music as well (including Organissimo!) Worth a shot. There is also WEMU in Ann Arbor but I don't know if they are streaming audio or not. They got all freaked out about that law passing around that wants to make stations pay royalties for streaming... Brad Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 A big for WKCR. Some of the hosts are very knowledgeable (although Phil Schaap is a controversial figure). I like Symphony Sid Gribitz who does their morning drive time show on Tuesdays mornings (6-820 am EST). The people who do the jazz alternatives show from 6-9 pm EST M-F are very good as are the hosts for Out to Lunch, 12-3 EST M-F. Let's not forget WBGO. I find their hosts a bit more amateurish but hey it's jazz and we should support it. Quote
