sidewinder Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) Interesting snippet of film from the BBC. Hendrix's Pad Edited August 25, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 How long before someone puts out "Hendrix and G.F. Handel: The Attic Tapes" as a bootleg? Quote
sidewinder Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 I like the bit about the gas-powered refridgerator. Only in England ! Quote
paul secor Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) I'm surprised that Hendrix's flat hasn't been turned into a permanent museum. I would think that, at least in the present day, there'd be more interest in Hendrix than in Handel. Edited August 25, 2010 by paul secor Quote
brownie Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 And now fresh news from Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios'. It's still open for business: from The New York Times. Quote

Alexander Hawkins Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 I actually did a gig - a Handel/Hendrix thing - in the Handel museum a few months ago...fun place! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) I actually did a gig - a Handel/Hendrix thing - in the Handel museum a few months ago...fun place! As someone said on another thread, 'only in England'! Music for Royal Fireworks (with Lighter Fuel) by any chance? I suppose they have more in common than you first think - both came from abroad and established their reputations in London. Don't think Handel was at Woodstock*, though. (* Though he might have visited another Woodstock to entertain the Churchill's at some point.) Edited August 26, 2010 by A Lark Ascending Quote
umum_cypher Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 They do open it up a few days every year. You can sign up on the Handel House website to get an email when they do. I've been. As you can see, it's short on atmosphere. Handel's gaff is lovely though. He was obviously a dab hand at interior decoration. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 I'm surprised that Hendrix's flat hasn't been turned into a permanent museum. I would think that, at least in the present day, there'd be more interest in Hendrix than in Handel. Let's hope that London is more attuned to history than Jimi's hometown. Sure, there's a statue of him on Broadway and an exhibit in EMP, but Seattle on the whole pretty much ignores history of any kind. Jimi Hendrix childhood home torn down Quote
sidewinder Posted August 26, 2010 Author Report Posted August 26, 2010 I've got a few days off over the next week so maybe I'll head in to London and call in at the Hendrix gaff, if it is open to the public. Quote
mjzee Posted February 8, 2016 Report Posted February 8, 2016 Interesting news article on Hendrix's flat: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3437104/The-real-Red-House-yonder-Bedroom-Mayfair-flat-Jimi-Hendrix-lived-height-fame-opens-public-2-4million-restoration-project.html One photo highlights his record collection. Nice to see albums from Wes Montgomery and Charles Lloyd there. Quote
