Hardbopjazz Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 James Moody was supposed to play the Blue Note this week, but instead was in the hospital having surgery. The band played without him and asked for fans to have good thoughts. I don't know exactly what surgery Moody underwent, but someone in his 80s, we can only hope he’ll bounce back. Get well Moody!!!! Jim R Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Fwiw, this was posted a few days ago in the NYT: Saxophone Summit: Salute to James Moody (Tuesday through Thursday) This spring the saxophonist James Moody turned 85 — and had gallbladder surgery, postponing his return to the spotlight for a while. He’s the subject of a tribute featuring several worthy inheritors here, starting with the tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander and the alto saxophonist and flutist Antonio Hart. Another young tenor, Chris Potter, puts in an appearance on Tuesday; on Thursday the saxophonic guest will be Mr. Moody’s distinguished colleague Jimmy Heath. (Through Aug. 29.) At 8 and 10:30 p.m., Blue Note, 131 West Third Street, Greenwich Village , (212) 475-8592, bluenote.net; $35 cover at tables, $20 at the bar, with a $5 minimum. Quote

brownie Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 This should be sad news but I read all kind of positive aspects in this article. Best wishes to one of jazz's elder statesmen! A real gentleman! Quote
sidewinder Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Yes, huge respect from here too. Dizzy Gillespie showed very fine judgement in making James Moody his front line partner for all those years. Best wishes Mr Moody ! Quote

JSngry Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I don't have that calendar, but I'll gladly live by y'all's, at least for this month (and maybe longer, depending on how many gigs are on that callendar...). Quote
BeBop Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 I've heard a rumor that I refuse to believe. Anyone have any news? I'll take no news as good news. Quote
