brownie
EMI France is releasing a three-CD set that compiles several sessions led by composer/arranger Christian Chevallier. The set comes under the rather grandiloquent title of 'Christian Chevallier Le Prince du Jazz'. A rather sloppily assembled box that contains no discographical details and lacks several key dates, including the two 1956 sessions with Billy Byers and Allan Eager and only four tracks from the soundtrack of the 1959 film by Jean-Pierre Melville 'Deux Hommes dans Manhattan' (the liner notes even fail to give Martial Solal co-credits for it). Most of the sessions are not in chronological order. However it does include various sessions plus the following excellent albums (with participation musicians like Roger Guerin, Bobby Jaspar, Jean-Louis Chautemps, Tony Scott, David Amram, Maurice Vander, Pierre Michelot, Kenny Clarke, etc...: - Formidable - 6 + 6 - Kenny Clarke Plays Christian Chevallier Also some non-jazz sessions with several uninteresting singers. king ubu
Hm, looks pretty interesting to me, I have to say (after having checked the discographies, that is).
