John L Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 I notice that their web site has been down for almost a week. They are a great Paris institution, and I hope that everything is OK with them. Quote
brownie Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 What do you expect? it's mid August. Their website - different from the shop - is closed and will reopen when they get back from holidays like most good French people do The Paris Jazz Corner shop is open for business as usual... Quote
John L Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 I should have known! Thanks, Brownie. That is good news. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Really must cash in some air miles and pay a personal visit ! The only problem is that I would come out of there broke.. Quote
gmonahan Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 It IS a cool store. Last time I was there I came out with that cool little set of late 40s Ellington cds on French CBS. gregmo Quote
brownie Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Paris Jazz Corner has a page featuring album covers from the Vogue France label on its current Newsletter. Many of the records have photos taken by Jean-Pierre Leloir who died last month. Vogue album covers Quote
brownie Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 Paris Jazz Corner and its owner Arnaud Boubet are featured on Le Nouvel Observateur's website this week (all in french): NouvelObs http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsqatm_le-top-3-de-la-musique-jazz-qu-il-vous-faut_news?search_algo=1 Quote
gmonahan Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 I've visited the store several times during this trip to Paris. It appears to be thriving in its usual cool way, open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as it has been for some years, but generally with customers. I helped them out by buying some cds. Just charity of course....... gregmo Quote
brownie Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) You obviously went to the secondary adress at 8 rue de Nancy. The main adress (at Rue de Navarre) was open a few days ago. They are usually open from Tuesday to Saturday. They have been busy buying large collections and may have closed for a few days to make room for the new acquisitions. PJC has released the excellent Lenny Popkin CD 'Time Set' recently Time Set Edited October 7, 2012 by brownie Quote

Swinger Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 I'm not sure if I ever want to visit that store should I visit Paris one day. I wouldn't have enough money to buy all the goodies Quote

Half of 'Time Set' was recorded in New York. The other half was recorded in Paris on April 5 and May 24, 2006. Quote

Hm, I thought there was a more recent Paris broadcast, but turns out the one I meant dates fro 2002. Info (but no music) still on my blog: http://ubu-space.blogspot.ch/2010/04/lenny-popkin-paris-2002.html I also found there's an "Open Jazz" show on France Musique from September that can still be streamed for nearly a month: http://sites.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/em/open-jazz/emission.php?e_id=65000050&d_id=515002548 Guess I got to grab me a copy of that new disc! EKE BBB Posted June 20, 2017 Report Posted June 20, 2017 Is Paris Jazz Corner still opened? At least it looks like their website is working, although it's been a while since the last time I ordered from them. Quote

brownie Posted June 20, 2017 Report Posted June 20, 2017 Yes the Paris Rue de Navarre store is still open. The owner (Arnaud Boubet) has moved to Sommieres in southern France where he has opened another Paris Jazz Corner shop. Quote

Not sure there will be a very big market in little Sommieres for jazz, though! gregmo Quote
EKE BBB Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 Thanks for the update, brownie. Here's wishing to return to Paris some day soon. It's been a good bunch of years since my last visit and... I love Paris in the spring time I love Paris in the fall I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles Quote
sidewinder Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 They still keep sending me emails (with 20% off sales, which still work out very expensive). Quote

Ouch. I should have known that. Last week I came back from 12 days of holidays about 50 kms west of Montpellier. Not an impossible distance from Sommières (in fact I even drove through that place in May last year one Saturday morning when I was near Nimes for another event during our holidays in the region!).
