brownie Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Singer/pianist Buddy Greco reminisces on Marilyn Monroe's last weekend in the London Daily Mail... Buddy Greco's story Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 thanks, interesting story, if ultimately speculative - and Greco was a terrific pianist, surprisingly Bud Powell-ish on the B.G. sextet things with Wardell. Quote
JSngry Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 But isn't he the guy who was infamous as a singer for not being able to count bars, resulting in some really "interesting" phrasings on live gigs? Or is that somebody else? Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 news to me - could be true. Don't know - he seems to be a pretty good musician. Quote
JSngry Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I always thought so too, but I keep hearing stories about some singer who has serious challenges counting bars. Used to be the butt of some "inside" jokes on the old Carson show from time to time, + stories thru the grapevine. It might not be Buddy Greco, but I'm thinking that it is? Help? Anybody? Quote
Larry Kart Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Eddie Fisher? He was notorious in that regard. And both he and Greco had curly hair. Quote
