tranemonk Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) I was shocked when I saw this. For those of you who remember he did a series of radio interviews with jazz greats in the 1980s. The box set is still around and sells for $250. I have always wanted the set but couldn't justify the $$$. This price of $8.99 for the whole thing is ridiculous... So if you're interested grab it while you can... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UEZS0K/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000NE59VI&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0HRVN800N7BYE1V8SYAF P.S. Many of the interviews are quite good!!! Edited July 28, 2010 by tranemonk Quote

Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 thanks! I knew iTunes had it for big money but this is mainly podcast ready fare. good to see Ben's music "sort of " available @ amazon as well. too bad he can put together something aside from Japanese imports and mp3s. Quote
mjzee Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 On Ben Sidran's site, he's made available all of his Talking Jazz interviews for listening online. See: http://bensidran.com/project/talking-jazz-project Quote

See: http://bensidran.com/project/talking-jazz-project Thanks for this, I always thought he was kind of a doofus when I'd see him on ... VH1? back in the day. But I heard the Horace Silver interview in the past and it wasn't bad. A lot of potentially interesting recordings there to explore. Quote
JSngry Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 He did an interview with RVG that I taped of the air. It was informative and enjoyable, if not particularly enlightening. Then again, I'm thinking that it was understood up front that "dude, how the hell do you get your piano to sound like THAT?" was not going to be an allowable question! Quote
mjzee Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 Check out the Herbie Hancock, Mel Lewis, and Red Rodney interviews, for starters. Quote
BFrank Posted March 13, 2019 Report Posted March 13, 2019 I downloaded that from eMusic several years ago when they first put it up. IIRC, it was in that same price range, maybe cheaper. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted February 20, 2021 Report Posted February 20, 2021 It's been uploaded to Bandcamp: https://talkingjazz.bandcamp.com/album/talking-jazz Purchase or streaming. A wonderful resource. Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2021 Report Posted February 20, 2021 Wow, 86 interviews....that's a lot, and for less than $1 each. Quote
ejp626 Posted February 20, 2021 Report Posted February 20, 2021 A fair number of these (mostly the saxophone players) have been compiled into "episodes" of two or three interviews and added to iTunes (maybe Spotify as well). I'm listening to the Bobby McFerrin/Ken Nordine episode, which is most excellent, as Sidran convinced Nordine to create a short Word Jazz piece during the interview. Not sure if all the pianist and trumpeter interviews will eventually be added or not. Quote
