Niko Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 no bass and one or two guitars and an organ too many, but what about those Groove Holmes/Jimmy McGriff Giants of The Organ albums? (especially the live one) Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Can I be crass and plug something I play on? :blush2: I wonder if you may enjoy one or other of these albums...(there is a third, but featuring a saxophone...) Quote
Stefan Wood Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Leon Spencer - Legends of Acid Jazz is good, but not the prog flavor that you are looking for. Melvin Sparks - Legends of Acid Jazz an excellent cd, but again, more greasy goodness than prog. Freddie Roach - Lots of soul and grease, but not what you're looking for Quote
Shawn Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) John Patton - Let 'Em Roll (organ, vibes, guitar, drums) John Patton - Got a Good Thing Goin' (organ, guitar, drums) Dr. Lonnie Smith - most of his recent releases feature an organ, 2 guitar, drums lineup. mikeweil Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) First one that came to my mind was this: The Casualties of Jazz - Kind of Black Organ, acoustic bass, and drums, covers of Black Sabbath tunes - listen to the samples: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/tcoj While searching the web for the above, I came across these: http://7come11.org/ http://www.darediablo.com/ Edited July 26, 2010 by mikeweil Quote
B. Clugston Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Van Patterson Quartet, Live at the F.W. a cassette only release on The Tapeworm label. It's organ, guitar, drums--there may be a bass, can't tell because it's a cassette. A bit jazzy in parts, but more psych. Not sure if it's from the 1960s as it is purported to be or a more recent knock-off, as many suspect. Quote
