GA Russell Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 About fifteen years ago I was on the phone with Cadence Magazine, ordering a year's subscription. Out of all their LP inventory, the fellow recommended the Breuker album called (if I remember correctly) a Paris, so I bought it. RIP Quote
mikeweil Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Truly shocking - was he ill or something like that? Too young ... RIP, Willem Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 I knew he wasn't in the best of health, but 65 is too young to go. Quote
B. Clugston Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 RIP. Way too young. I love his 1975 live albums, particularly Live in Berlin. Quote

Adam Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 This is really sad. I liked a lot of his music, and really loved the Kollektief's. Hoped they might come to Los Angeles again. The performance that I saw, must have been 8 years ago now, was so incredibly vibrant and joyous. RIP. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 RIP I can imagine a Toeterix sendoff instead of bagpipes. This? yes ... :(way too young Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Another shocker... I was aware that he had been ill for quite some time, but it's still a shock. Another one of my musical heroes moving on... Sigh. I feel blessed that I had a chance to hear the Kollektief in performance a couple of times. Great fun and incredible musicianship. R.I.P. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 First Harry Beckett - and now this. What sad news. I was fortunate enough to get to see him the once and that was with his Kollektief (with Misha Mengelberg) in North America. Hope he is now in peace - RIP and thank you for that concert. Quote
king ubu Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Oh fuck no. This is so sad. r.i.p. - and thank you for all to great music! Quote

medjuck Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 That's sad. I loved his recordings but never did get to see him. Guess I never will. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Ugh. Death is killing me. Breuker was a master at his own table. Quote
martini Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Terrible news. He was on a short list of performers whom I had always wanted to see, but never had the chance. To say that his music has brought more than a little bit of light into my world would be a severe understatement. He is one of the artists to whom I listen most often. I like some of his works better than others, but I cannot recall hearing anything that I didn't like. I even adore the album with the barrel organs from his ICP days (ICP 003), which is still in print on CD on BVHaast. I also love those great LPs with Gunter Hampel; his long OOP ICP recordings ("Chocolate Box" 007/008 and The Message 009); the lovely Baal, and my favorite Kollektief recordings: In Holland, A Paris, and the Hunger, Thirst, Misery trilogy. And what about those Bennink duos ('67 and later in '84)? His contribution to Machine Gun? Woah, this one hurts. I hope BVHaast survives and keeps his work in print. He will always be one of my favorite artists. Quote
