I am going to Romania, departure on wednesday, motorbike as usual. My trip would be Transilvania, Carpatian mountain and the Nord, Bucovnia. I'll avoid all the souther plain, Valakia, Bucarest and the crowded Black Sea beaches.

A part the usual garlic crown, the cell phone number of Van Helsing, a couple of ash wood oarlocks and several crucifixs, have you some suggestions?

Anybody there?

I hope it's better there than it was 15 ten years ago. I planned a side trip into Romania and I was told there was too much crime and that as an American, I would be a prime target. I was told to avoid Romania and Poland for this reason.

naturally, i wasn't an American (though obviously a Western tourist) but i travelled Poland in the late 90s and it always felt reasonably save... nothing I've heard speaks for singling out just those two countries out of the old East... (Russia for instance sounded much more troublesome to me than Poland from all I've heard...)

I am not really worried about crime, I travelled in Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republik, Hungary, never had a problem. Just wondering if someone has been there recently.

About crime as Rick said to Strasser:

Major Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?

Rick: It's not particularly my beloved Paris.

Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?

Rick: When you get there, ask me!

Captain Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!

Major Strasser: How about New York?

Rick: Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade.

Avoid strange people called Vlad wearing black cloaks and offering cheap Blue Note mono first pressings ! :)

Well, if the name were Vladina, wearing a very short black cloaks and high heel, I think I'll take risk, BN mono pressings come first.

Or the seemingly friendly old man who, on learning you are a jazz fan, invites you back to his castle to hear his ultra-rare Lee Morgan LP, 'The Impaler'.

Surprisingly I got this one, unfortunately I can spin it only after sunset...

I am back, nice trip. Some rain, a little mechanical problem with the bike, nothing serious.

BTW I got the confirm that Vlad Tepes, the biggest Romanian collector since 1413, sold the only known copy of Morgan's The Impaler, mono first pressing deepest groove, to a french guy, ages ago, Vlad didn't want to told me the name of the frenchman nor what he traded for the record...
