Guy Berger Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I thought I'd start this thread so people can chip in when something goes out of print -- it's very frustrating to hold off on buying something and then discover that it's vanished. Maybe this way we will have a chance to snag it before that happens. Guy Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Excellent idea. Here's a couple from the recent True Blue list (don't have it w/me--will try to bring it in tomorrow & post the whole thing): Clark Terry/Paul Gonsalves, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS Ornette Coleman, LOVE CALL Quote
Guy Berger Posted December 15, 2003 Author Report Posted December 15, 2003 Here's are two from a while back, but I think they are OOP: Sonny Sharrock, Ask the Ages Joe Zawinul, Zawinul Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 There's only about 30 copies left of our CD... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 There's only about 30 copies left of our CD... Really?????? Wow!!! How many did you have pressed?? (I'm guessing 1,000.) Quote
John B Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 (edited) There's only about 30 copies left of our CD... make that 29. I finally placed an order for a copy. I'll have you know that yours will be the last cd I buy before going on moratorium for a few months! I am really looking forward to hearing it. Edited December 15, 2003 by John B Quote
BeBop Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 This seems like a worthy exception to my 'no more buying recorded music' rule. Where's this Organissimo CD available? Quote

BeBop Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 28. The first recording I've bought in three years. And, hopefully, the last for three more. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Yes, our initial run was 1,000 copies. We probably gave 300 away for promotional purposes (radio stations, festivals, clubs, etc) and CDStreet still owes us $340 from March 2003 sales, but we did manage to break even about a month ago. Thanks for the orders, Bebop and John. I hope you enjoy the disc! Quote

Any plans to repress this one or will you be putting funds towards the next disc? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Any plans to repress this one or will you be putting funds towards the next disc? We're still discussing this... I think we probably will re-press it, but maybe only 500 at this point. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Hmmm...so much for buying 28 and hitting eBay! Quote

John B Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 If you re-list these on ebay you might want to add something about limited edition, out of print, only 1,000 pressed, etc... People seem to go crazy over that sort of disc on ebay. Quote
Shrdlu Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Here's one that will soon become OOP: the Japanese CD of "The Individualism of Gil Evans", and it just happens to be one of the best albums ever. This particular reissue has an incredibly short "availability window" of six months, which will be up any day now. Although it won't vanish the next day, I would not wait too long. Available from the usual suspects, of course. Sometimes, when an OOP date arrives, the stores are told to send any unsold copies back to the distributor for destruction. Horrors, but that's the way it works. An example is the 12 CD Ellington "Private Collection" box in the U.K. Great stuff, it goes OOP, and is pulverised. Uggh! Quote

Excellent work, and count me in for a pre-order when the next dic is ready! Quote

Thanks for the heads-up on this one, Shrdlu. It was on my wish-list, but your post expedited action on my part--it's now on its way from the Man in Japan, aka Mr. Tanno. What a great guy he is! He evidently visits this site from time to time, although he's not a member. Quote

I'm just glad that my post was worthwhile. We sure have to move quickly with a lot of those Japanese CDs. And they take a bite out of the bank account. They sound so good that the domestic CDs are usually disappointing by comparison. Ironically, most of my Japanese CDs are of lesser, or obscure albums, purchased partly because they simply aren't available anywhere else. This Evans album is an exception to that, of course. Quote
chris olivarez Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Hmmm...so much for buying 28 and hitting eBay! You mean like this? Organissimo on Ebay! I was going to pull the trigger on this over the holidays. I was bummed when I visited the cdbaby website. Any chance you'll get any more printed up? Quote
street singer Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 According to True Blue, this one's on its way out: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - 'Paris Jam Session' Anyone have an opinion of this one? Quote
