king ubu Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 As has been shortly mentioned in the Jazz in Paris thread, the new "Jazz in Paris Collector's Edition" reissue of Quincy Jones' "I Dig Dancers" contains a few bonus tracks that were omitted on the Mosaic set. I alerted Michael Cuscuna about it and just today was in touch with him again about details. He has no idea where these titles come from, and the new reissue gives no detail - it states: Original LP issue (1-10): Mercury 60612 (P) 1960 The Verve Music Group (1-10) (P) 1984 The Verve Music Group (11-15) Hence the bonus tracks not on the Mosaic, "Close Your Eyes" and "Blues from Free and Easy" were (or are believed by Universal France to have been) released in 1984. Anyone has an idea where that might have been? Some more info, comparing the Mosaic discography with the new CD's informations: - for the Feb 27, Feb 29 and Apr 21 session, the line-up adds "prob. Roger Guérin (tp)" - the (new) notes by Alain Tercinet state that Terry left when Q decided to prolong his stay in Europe and that gave Guérin the chance to play in this band (Guérin has died only fairly recently, btw). - these same three sessions were held at Pathé-Magellan Studio, Paris (rec. eng. is Gerhard Lehner as in the Mosaic booklet) - "Close Your Eyes" (2:06) and "Blues from Free and Easy" (1:59) stem from the Feb 29 session - the Apr 21 date isn't double-guessed (I assume Mosaic did its homework more thoroughly there!)Here's the beginning of the discussion in the Jazz in Paris thread: Quote
Swinging Swede Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Both Lord and Jazzdisco.org say that those two tracks first were released on a Japanese 4-LP set called Mercury 40th Anniversary V.S.O.P. Album. Lord also mentions that they aren't included in the Mosaic set - which then is a serious oversight on Mosaic's part. Quote
king ubu Posted June 27, 2010 Author Report Posted June 27, 2010 Ah, I see... will let MC know about that! Quote

I have the Japanese Mercury VSOP 4LP box and these two tracks are included, along with the alternate of 'Moanin''. Edited June 27, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
