Uncle Skid Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Heritage is out today... got a shipping notice from Amazon yesterday... Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 For anyone interested, Opeth released an exclusive live album with the German "Rock Hard" magazine. It's got the following track list: The Devil`s Orchard (Heritage) Heir Apparent (Watershed) Ghost Of Perdition (Ghost Reveries) The Leper Affinity (Blackwater Park) Hessian Peel (Watershed) Deliverance (Deliverance) I believe the first track is the studio version of "Devil's Orchard", but the rest is live. Anyway, Rock Hard magazine has this available on Ebay currently, for non-German folks who can't get it otherwise. The price is Euro 6.90 + Euro 3.00 for shipping to the U.S. That works out to around $14.00. Ebay Link Quote
jazzbo Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 It's a very cool cd. I ordered the deluxe version of Heritage. . . hasn't shipped yet. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 For anyone interested, Opeth released an exclusive live album with the German "Rock Hard" magazine. It's got the following track list: Thanks, Erik! Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Very welcome! There are a few Buy-It-Nows for upwards of $40, so I'd imagine once the magazine stops selling it themselves, it will go up even higher. $14.00 is a good deal! Quote
Shawn Posted September 21, 2011 Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 I'll be picking up a copy on payday, I'm planning on getting the deluxe edition with the DVD because it contains rehearsals and a couple bonus tracks. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Well, Heritage is a very interesting album, sounding like Opeth without a doubt, yet touching base with the sound and texture of many other bands. I hope it sells well. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 My brother is seeing them in Detroit in October. Wish I could go but I'll be in LA. I want to pick up the new record. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) The new record is OK. Not great, but OK. I was listening to disc 1 of their live CD at Royal Albert Hall, and I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed when listening to Heritage after that. Disregarding the music for the moment, the recording itself sounds very odd to me, very compressed, very unlike their earlier records. Almost to the point of wondering WTF the producers were thinking -- the sound of this new record is just weird to me. Heritage is slowly growing on me, but, at this point, it just doesn't come close to any of the earlier Opeth recordings. But, more power to them... this isn't a complaint about the lack of growling vocals or any other death metal "requirements"-- I just see this as a necessary step to wherever they are going next. And, wherever Mikael Akerfeldt is going next, I will be there to listen. His track record (and all of the amazing musicians in that band) is too friggin' amazing to ignore. Shawn Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Posted September 25, 2011 The album takes several spins just to sink in, it's very dense. I love it, they do whatever the hell they want, that's all I can ask for in this day and age. Quote
Shawn Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Posted September 25, 2011 I love that cover. Mikael says in the video "when you guys fuck off after the show, we're going to take pictures down in those seats just like Deep Purple did." Quote
Quincy Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Given the "death metal" label those guys are such goofy nerdy fanboys. That comes out in their record buying outing video too. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 Shawn was right. This record is sinking in after a few more spins, starting to like it more now. I also ordered the "deluxe" version (w/DVD), and finally was able to download the two bonus tracks today. It took a lot of messing around with computer crap (updating java, running some stupid plug-in, etc), but it was worth it. "Face in the The Snow" is particularly good, and oddly enough, the recording itself sounds fantastic to me -- unlike the actual CD. FWIW, MP3s are encoded at 320k. Quote
Shawn Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 A couple performances on Swedish TV. "Pyre" (one of the bonus tracks) and Nepenthe from Heritage. (both slightly shortened versions) Quote

PM me if anybody (in the US) wants it -- I'd be glad to send out at no cost. The only thing I'd ask is that you Paypal the seller ROCK HARD GmbH something reasonable (~$10), as a thank you for his great customer service. Quote
Aggie87 Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Just listened to mine today - this cd rocks - well worth what Skid's asking. Quote
