bertrand Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 We discussed this obscure record a few years back but I can't find the thread. Does anyone have titles, date, etc.? Did anyone ever scare up a copy? Thanks, Bertrand. Quote

jeffcrom Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 I wasn't aware of this album, but I've never forgiven myself for not picking up Eddie Bo's New Orleans Piano Riffs for DJs when I saw it in a stack of used LPs 20 years ago. I didn't quite get what it was, and money was tight - oh, well.... Quote
bertrand Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 (edited) Thanks for digging up the cover - love the look on Dewey's face! I bet they're something interesting going on on this record, regardless of what it is. Bertrand. P.S.: Oh wait, there's a phone number. What the hell - I'll try to call. Has anyone else already tried? Edited June 1, 2010 by bertrand Quote
bertrand Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 The unavailable LP has 6 tracks (plus a ringtone!): Redman 1 (Parts 1-6). There also seems to be a compilation called Riffmania 1 with two (other?) tracks by Dewey: Dewey Redman 7 and Dewey Redman 8. This one seems to be available. Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Update: I called, and they may be offering downloads soon. I'll call theme periodically to check the status of this. They played a little bit of the first track for me over the phone. It sounded like it could have been a variation on 'Turn Over Baby'. I'm getting more and more curious. The LP is only about 20 minutes or so. Bertrand. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Speaking of Dewey, and I'm sure this as been discussed before, but has anyone heard the session from 1968 (?) ostensibly cut for Blue Note with Joe McPhee and David Izenzon? Quote
colinmce Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Whoa, I wish. Any more info on that one? Quote
CJ Shearn Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Hmm, so Dewey did sort of a live sampling record for DJ's? That should be really, really intriguing. Quote

I seem to recall the personnel is correct, but it was not done for Blue Note. The music is fantastic. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Yeah, personnel is correct after listening. It does not seem like all three drummers are on every track. I hear lots of Ali and Moore. Quote
