minew Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 The AACM Large Ensemble is scheduled for Fred Anderson's Velvet Lounge for Dec. 19-20. Anyone seen an iteration of this group recently? The last personnel listing I could find for it was in 1995. I imagine it's somewhat fluid. At any rate, I'll be in Chicago then and plan to go. Any information would be apprectiated. Lots of other stuff going on that week that will bring me to 3030, the Empty Bottle, Links Hall, and the Jazz Record Mart. Any of you Chicagoans plan to catch any of that? Quote
JSngry Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 (edited) Wish I could make it. Reckon David Boykin is involved? Edited December 10, 2003 by JSngry Quote

sal Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 minew, where is the brotzmann/drake show going to be at? Quote
minew Posted December 11, 2003 Author Report Posted December 11, 2003 Peter Brotzmann/Hamid Drake Duo 3030 (3030 W. Cortland) Fri. Dec. 19 at 10:00 PM If you go, look for me there. I'll be the guy who looks like he just spent two days driving from New Orleans with an eight-month-old in the back seat. Quote
uli Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Allright, I don't know who is gonna play with the ensemble. I've heard them at the Velvet in October. It was one of those strange evenings. I think it was the evening of the Cubs last playoff game. Nobody really in the audience and musicians walking in and watching the game. From what I remember the lineup was something like that: Isiah Spencer, drums, Darius Savage, bass, Enoch Williamson, drums, Ernest Dawkins, saxes, Steve Berry, trombone, maybe Isiah Jackson on bone as well. Nikki Mitchell, flutes and more musicians, especially from the younger generation of AACM like Kevin Nolems walking in as the evening progressed. I am not sure anymore if Don Moye sat in or I just had a good time talking to him. Would expect a lineup along those lines. Quote
