Love the Dolphy disc, like quite a lot most of what I heard by the VAO!

The Satie disc (Minimalism of Erik Satie, Hat Hut) is excellent!

Most of their stuff is OOP alas (more than a dozen albums on what I think was/is a Universal Austria sub, Amadeo or something like that).

It was part of this 3CD set:

(the other discs are a ballad album with various guest singers, and a "serious" composition album by Rüegg, which I think I played but once or twice)

No leads as to where to find the Dolphy disc, alas.

An amazing group...

From No Time to Rag Time always knocked me out. Perpetuum Mobile is also a fine collection.

It's too bad that so much of their recorded output is either insanely expensive and/or very difficult to find these days. Perpetuum... is going for about $70 on eBay.

This 3 CD set came out 3 years ago entitled Vienna Art Orchestra- Triology 30th anniversay on emarcy/universal. I can't find any reviews at all on this......was wondering if anyone on this board is familiar with this.....my only question is how much singing is on this set.

I think this is the set you're referring to:

3 Trilogy-30th Anniversary Box

I have merged your thread with the existing one about the Vienna Art Orchestra. It might get more attention.

Can't remember how much singing there is - picked it up for a sale price and it's ok, but not that exceptional, I found. Same mostly for the 25th anniv. 2CD set (disc 2 of that one is a remix done by that guitar player named Koller who sometimes appeared/appears with the VAO).

Ah, here's a PDF of the whole booklet, check pp. 20-21 of the PDF (pp. 38-40 of the booklet) for soloist/vocalist* listings.

*) Anna Lauvergnac only - she's not bad.

I have this set. I don't recall much singing. But I also think, as others, that it is ok, and not as interesting as the Hat Arts.

I have just recently discovered that band, it's something else, I especially like "Nine Immortal Non-Evergreens For Eric Dolphy" and "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love". I just can't desribe it, it's straight forward swing and then it changes to something else, really amazing and very good, great arrangents by Mathias Rügg (the bandleader). Any other who dig them ?.

Seems they reached their end.

Short notes about it in yesterday's press... lack of a larger amount of money prevents Rüegg from continuing.

Not sure how bad a thing that is, as to me they went from exciting to highly enjoyable to... well, very good but not something I'd run to hear these days. Sorry to say so, but maybe they just reached the end of what certainly was a great run, with over a thousand shows and around forty albums released.

Here's the news (in German and English below) from their website.
