Big Beat Steve Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Certainly NOT Lionel Hampton. It was only mediocre the other way round .... Quote

jazzbo Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I think it might have been on a PJ compilation album before hand. I think that Geru added to the Farmer group with Jim Hall would have been an interesting blend. Quote

colinmce Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Miles Davis Man, yeah. What a front line this would have made ca. 1957. Just Miles, Gerry, Red, PC and PJJ. Quote
carnivore Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Also a nice album with Scott Hamilton on Concord Quote

Brad Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Listened to the Konitz last week. Very enjoyable, made only more so by Chet Baker. Quote

A nice studio date with Art and Gerry both featured in front of that rhythm section. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 It might have put me to sleep. Not a bad thing. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Listened to the Konitz last week. Very enjoyable, made only more so by Chet Baker. I used to have that on LP and wasn't feeling it. My tastes have changed since; who knows, I might enjoy it more now. Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 interesting thing about that Mulligan Meets Konitz is how significantly better the LP (one of those '70 Bluenote gatefold twofers) sounds. Way better. Don't know if it was the source or bad digital conversion. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Better than which cd version? I've had at least 2. The lp version you issue was at least the 3rd lp edition in the US. Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 the CD version that I heard was the one above here, with the mosaic on the cover. Quote
JSngry Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 So, was Bernie's Tune absent from the original LP and only added later to the cd release? Why's that? My CD says it was first issued on the Mosaic Mulligan/Baker box. Why, I have no idea. I first heard the material (some of it, anyway) on PLLP-2, a 10" job with the quartet on one side & Konitz added on the flip. The I got this one, the same material as on the one originally pictured, but repackaged for the late-60s market: The 2-LP set I never got, just becuase there was some studio/larger group/more-arranged stuff I didn't really care for all that much. But the real meat for me is the straight-up quintet stuff where Konitz has pretty much the whole show. Some of his strongest/most striking playing ever, imo. He's in that zone. Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 yes, great Konitz, and that last pic is the LP double set that I have in excellent sound - don't know about the other LPS. Quote

Okay, thanks. Seems like a fair number of Revelation copies floating about over at eBay. Another Mulligan question please. I have a beat vinyl copy of and would like to pick up the cd version. The material is on the 2-cd Lonehill set (which I don't want because I already have 'Mainstream of Jazz') ....and it appears as though the only other way to get it is to pick up the Membran disc. This true? . Quote
