Head Man Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Does anyone know whether any of Richie Kamuca's three albums on Concord have ever been re-issued on CD? I've managed to put a big scratch on my vinyl copy of 'Drop me off in Harlem' and I'm looking for a replacement! Quote
jazztrain Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Not to my knowledge. My understanding is that the Kamuca albums were recorded privately and were then leased to Concord by Kamuca for issue on LP. I don't think that Concord currently has rights to reissue them. My recollection is that the first one (called "Richie") was originally issued by Kamuca on another label (Jazzz). I have CD-R copies of them (plus part of the date with Dave Frishberg) courtesy of another member. Ironically, I've been playing them in the car the last two days. BeBop Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 That's a shame. I've got the LPs and wish others could buy/hear more Kamuca. (The Shelly Manne Blackhawk I-V material is also good.) Quote

That's true for 'Richie' and 'Richie Kamuca's Charlie' but 'Drop me off in Harlem' was produced by Carl Jefferson. Quote
JohnS Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 I have Jazzz 104, and it's one of my favourite albums. Charlie seemed to promise a lot but it never really grabbed me. I've not heard the other Concord disc. Incidentally Lord lists an unissued quartet set on Keynote from 1956. Quote
