Dave James Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Sometimes you get to messing around on YouTube and find something pretty interesting. In this case, video of John Coltrane with the Wynton Kelly Trio. Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. I had never seen this before. Hopefully, it will be new to you too. Kelly could swing with the best of them. It's no wonder Miles liked him so much. Quote
brownie Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Always good to see this once more. This was videotaped in Dusselforf, Germany, on March 28, 1960 during the European tour of the Miles Davis quintet. Miles failed to appear for the show that day! It's great to see how the musicians dressed up for their concerts in those days Quote

kh1958 Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 It's included in the Jazz Icons Coltrane DVD. Quote
JSngry Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 That's another set for the estate's allegedly forthcoming "Bootleg Series" - the Miles/Trane European tour of 1960. Nothing is as brain-shattering as the Paris gig that started it off(?), but there is nothing less than excellent to be heard from that entire tour. Trane really shook everybody up & had them playing at the very top of their collective game. Quote
Shrdlu Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 I think that video is from the session where Trane and Stan Getz play one piece together, with Oscar Peterson on piano instead of Wynton. You can find that on Dailymotion. Trane is really on fire on that! Quote
