Also, I especially like his solo on this tune - such strong emotional quality, and quiet almost whispering-alike execution:

IIRC, he's in fine form on Basie's "Fiesta in Blue."

He's on fine form on his All Stars' album Songs for Swingers (1958). (I don't think this one ever made it to CD.)

Songs for Swingers is on a Mosaic box set (Columbia small groups?)

I had an old English Phillips mono lp which I bought in 1961.

By comparison the Mosaic stereo cd is a revelation.

Buck's playing on 'The Hucklebuck' and 'Robbins Nest' - the Columbia 'Jam Sessions' under his own name - are as good as it gets. Superb.

Buck played so many beautiful and tasty solos with Basie and Teddy Wilson-Billie Holiday that it is damn hard to choose. Buck really had his own original kind of lyricism, always very satisfying.
