chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 since side A for example is from two different sessions, do you think that it is a lower generation copy than say an album like, well i dont jknow, anything that is all from the same session, do you think rvg had to do something different is this covered in the cd-rvg edition liner notes? Chuck Nessa Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Ask Alfred Lion, the producer. RVG was just the recording engineer. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 they prob had to split these lps all up cause the songs were so long. i have no idea why they did it also for hank Quote
brownie Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 'Houseparty' comes from two sessions, both recorded at the Manhattan Towers studios, not at RVG's place. 'Just Friends' and 'Blues After All' are from the first session, August 25, 1957. The one with George Coleman. 'Au Private' and 'Lover Man' are from the second session, February 25, 1958. The one with Lou Donaldson and Tina Brooks. Other titles from the two sessions came out on 'The Sermon' which was released shortly after 'Houseparty'. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 so even though its stamped RVG, it was only pressed by RVG, not recorded by RVG? was rvg busy that day? why were they still using other stuidios like manhattan studios?i was originally wondering if because it was a compilation, one of the sessions had to be DUBBED one extra time....u know Quote
JSngry Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 or they could just splice the tapes together.and RVG recorded the date, just not at his place. not sure why though. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Because when it was too late or groups were too large, RVG recorded at Manhattan Towers. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 I think I read somewhere they recorded at Manhattan Towers because the acoustics were suited better for recording the Hammond organ - and furthermore RVG was still recording at his parents' house in Hackensack at the time - perhaps a B3 with Leslie and all simply didn't fit into the living room ... Quote
brownie Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 The Hackensack place was large enough to accomodate all the musicians who recorded the album 'Gil Evans and Ten' there, all three sessions. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Ask Alfred Lion, the producer. RVG was just the recording engineer. do you have his email? Quote
