Dan Gould
Thanks for the list, Brad. Nice to see them going deeper into the Argo catalog. Maybe there's hope that someday they'll put out my current "Holy Grail", Richard Evans Trio, Home Cookin'. I'm pretty certain it was released at the time-there's no indication otherwise at the Argo discography website I've seen, plus, Eddie Higgins gave me Evans' contact info, and he told me he remembered the session and also going to a Chicago soul food restaurant to have pictures taken for the album. So its gotta exist, but in two or more years, I've never seen it on ebay, while his other LP, Richard's Almanac, shows up at least once a month. ghost of miles
Speaking of Argo (I think), is Sonny Stitt's BURNIN' anywhere to be found these days?
Son-of-a-Weizen
I was looking around for some info on that upcoming 'Jazztet' release and found a site that said that Curtis Fuller abruptly bolted the band -- without giving notice -- after a performance at the Brooklyn Paramount theater (in '60?). Must have been an interesting little spat. Anyone heard the 'Big City Sound' vinyl? Worth picking up this new cd?
Jim R
Part of BIG CITY SOUNDS was released on the Chess CD BLUES ON DOWN, but they omitted two tracks ("the cool one" and "lament"). The complete album had: the cool one, blues on down,hi fly,my funny valentine, wonder why,con alma, lament, bean bag, five spot after dark Definitely one to pick up. Brad
Speaking of Argo (I think), is Sonny Stitt's BURNIN' anywhere to be found these days? Ghost, it's been reissued in part. Several of the songs were on the cd Sonny Stitt and Friends: How High the Moon, reissued by Verve a few years ago. That cd also included cuts from Inter-action and My Main Man. Son-of-a-Weizen
Okay....thanks Jim. Can the Jazztet (Mercury) title ("Another 'Git Together") be far behind???
Jim R
Let's hope not (hopefully "close behind"). Who knows- maybe we'll even see a domestic version (he quipped). After all, they finally had the good sense to release AT BIRDHOUSE and HERE AND NOW over the past few years. A domestic JAZZTET & JOHN LEWIS would be nice too...
