Guest PureSolo Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I just wanted to drop in a quick message to let you know about three amazing online jazz talent competitions we've just launched in association with Jazz FM. Snake Davis, Dennis Rollins and Steve Waterman will select the winners from a community-voted Top 10, so get your entires up early and start getting those all-important votes! Winners will go on to be mentored by the artists and will join them on stage for one song at an upcoming gig. Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 will I win a night with Kenny G? if so, I'm sorry, I don't pet on the first date - unless there's flowers, a lot of food, several illegal substances, and a large gratuity. Quote
Spontooneous Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Gee, I always wanted a mentor named Snake. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 But can he play Sweet Georgia Brown? Quote
JSngry Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I actually worked with Artis once...he's an itinerant type by and large, or was then, passes through, stays with people he's met over the years, shows up, plays intermissions or "sits in" for a few days, passes the hat, and moves on. Interesting guy. Now, could he play Sweet Georgia Brown, I don't know. But I've no doubt that he could play with it. He's got this one basic pulse that permeates everything he plays, but I've heard him adapt it to all sorts of other things well enough. Close enough for spoons. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) Artis! A Seattle legend... Say, who is this Snake Davis cat? Not many jazz musicians with great names like that around any more. "Where have all the Spikes gone? Long time in passing." Or Buds. Or Pee Wees. Or Mezzes. Or Fatheads... Aha! Just answered my own question: jazz? Edited March 24, 2010 by Bill Barton Quote
