Is anyone familiar with the work of Jamie Cullum?

He's been blowing up huge lately in all parts of the world. He just recently stole the show at Canadian Music Week according to Shalom Life - http://www.shalomlife.com/eng/8024/Jamie_Cullum_Rocked_CMW/

"Though known primarily as a jazz musician, Cullum’s sound is much wider than a simple regurgitation of standards. He showed off his uncanny ability to mix sounds to the CMW crowd, doing an organic mash-up of the old classic “Singin in the Rain” (made famous by Gene Kelly) with Rihanna’s monster-pop-hit “Umbrella.” The result was dreamy and contemplative, and a wonderful showcase of Cullum’s deft ear for sounds and rhythms.

This predilection for rhythm made itself known when lugubrious host Ralph Simon questioned Cullum about his use of a stompbox, something the English singer/songwriter was inspired to start using after seeing Spearhead frontman Michael Franti use one in a live show. Essentially just a wooden box with a microphone inside of it, Cullum frequently used it to bash out a beat, creating a kind of bouncy rhythmic interplay between melodic and percussive elements. Cullum also wasn’t shy about tapping on, in, and around the piano itself, using his bare hands to slap and smack the instrument back to its percussive roots. “Me and the piano are always in an argument,” he confessed."

His Mrs is nice.. :g

It's been said many times before that a musician "sold his soul" to become popular and wealthy.

This picture, I believe, provides irrefutable evidence that a deal with Beelzebub was made.

I just saw him on tv about a week ago - I am completely baffled as to his appeal - the guy can't sing and can't play. Aside from that, he's ok.

I heard some of it on the radio this morning on my way to work. Awful. The band was decent I guess, but his squawking was insufferable. If your voice is like Britt Daniel from Spoon, you shouldn't be singing jazz standards.

Not. it's Pat Sajak, who famously had his head implanted inside David McCallum's face man years ago.

Does that mean that Pat Sajak was really Illya Kuryakin? If that's the case, I'm going need a few minutes to recalibrate.

Even better Illya Kuryahkin.

Seriously, great underground pop from the 1990s.

O heck - he's 'Director In Residence' up in Cheltenham in a few weeks time so chances are he'll be out and about. Haven't bought a ticket for his gig. :)

Being Cheltenham AND it being the jazz festival, queues at the pensions counter in the main post office, probably.

Or the betting shop for the Cheltenham Gold Gup (I was in the general area yesterday and 'race fever' was regrettably hyped up as per usual).

Given his size, he'd have found himself on a horse tearing around the track before he knew it.
