skeith
Came out today. Cover sticker says remastering by the original engineer from the original tapes (I thought this was true of the previous version) and it comes in digipak form 2 disc set with a DVD regarding the making of each of the original 3 studio albums. Anyone know about these? I bet Lon does.
bluesbro
I dont think these are new remasters. They DVDs are supposedly less than 20 min duration. I passed. But the new Valleys of Neptune release is very good.
jazzbo
I haven't received mine yet, a few more days probably. Consensus on the Hoffman board seems to be that these are the same "remasterings" as the 1997 releases for the core albums. Though aytpically noone has yet done the Hoffman thing of slapping EAC graphs all over the place to prove this and that. Seems many think they are less "loud" and "compressed." I bought them because I'm a Jimi nut. The general opinion I've gotten from Jimi fans on and off line is that they're not biting on any except Valleys of Neptune. Rooster_Ties
But the new Valleys of Neptune release is very good. I'll second that. And FYI, the version at Target has two bonus tracks (not completely unreleased bonus tracks, but they're only otherwise available on one of the "Dagger" releases). bertrand
I hate when they do that. How much is Target selling it for? Bertrand.
bluesbro
$9.99 and a $5 gift card free if you buy two Hendrix releases.
BFrank
Got my "Valleys" today. Haven't listened to it yet. Been hearing good things, though.
Chalupa
I was thinking of getting Valleys on vinyl. So I checked out the sales on ebay and well.. look at this description... Thanks to the legacy and material he left behind, even 40 years after his death we're able to enjoy something new and exciting from this influential guitar icon. "Once the original analog tapes had been transferred to digital using the Burl Audio A/D converters at 24 bits and 96kHz, Kramer mixed Valleys through a vintage API console using an array of vintage tube gear, as well as the latest ProTools plug-ins from Waves for cleaning, de-noising, and de-clicking. He also used Waves' EQ and compressors and mixed to 1/2" tape at 15ips with Dolby SR noise reduction." - Robert Baird, Stereophile Magazine, April 2010 Features: • Double 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl Audiophile LP Pressing • All Analog Remaster from the Original 2-Track Master Tapes • Remastered by Jimi's Original Engineer, Eddie Kramer • Cut by George Marino at Sterling Sound • "All Analog Remaster"???? What about "transferred to digital using the Burl Audio A/D converters at 24 bits and 96kHz, Kramer mixed Valleys through a vintage API console using an array of vintage tube gear, as well as the latest ProTools plug-ins from Waves for cleaning, de-noising, and de-clicking." ??? Though I have to admit the part that worries me most is the use of "Waves' EQ and compressors" and "Dolby SR noise reduction".
AllenLowe
actually, Dolby SR is the best noise reduction there is. Pristine. Waves EQs, which I use, are incredibly good. So who knows....
Shawn
Well, I can definitely tell you that Valleys is worth getting, in fact, even if you're a casual fan of Hendrix this is a must-own. The version of Red House on here could be the best I've ever heard. I'm considering getting the vinyl reissues of the original albums.
