These are not people I know...

But Sarah Boatner turns up as composer on Disc 9 here:

Who were these people?

Wow....Sarah Boatner was Sonny Stitt's half-sister?!?!?!?!

Prof. Boatner was the father of the late jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt, the late Adelaide Boatner, a singer, and the late Clifford Boatner, a high school teacher. Daughter Sarah Boatner Alias, a vocalist, lives and works in New York City.

My Dad did a number of sessions with the Dave Lambert Singers prior to Lambert Hendricks and Ross. He had good memories of those sessions, liked the music, and said that Dave Lambert was a great guy. When I was a kid and didn't know anything about anything, my Dad would occasionally reconnect with an old friend from his session days. After a few drinks, they would inevitably get to the story about a colleague who got killed changing a tire on, I think, the Jersey Turnpike. Decades later I realized they were talking about Dave Lambert.

David Lucas is proud of his accomplishments: http://davidlucasmusic.com/bio.html

And ouch: http://people-vs-drchilledair.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-lambert-hendricks-and-ross-tribute.html

. Sadly, I learned that Leslie Dorsey, the black male in the group, had remained a struggling (mostly) choral singer until, while moonlighting as a taxi driver in NYC, he was murdered by robbers 24 years post-Lambert on Labor Day 1988. Here's the story from the NYT. Read it and weep.

thank you jsngry!

haven't found anything more (sarah boatner had some "serious" jazz gigs in the 70s with the likes of Bill Saxton, Rene McLean, Jaki Byard, Gregory Herbert... )

didn't help here but this blues and jazz filmography by david meeker is still a worthy download

Thank's for the downloadable version!!!

Thanks for posting that link. The whole Pennebaker film is linked there, and I found it interesting and enjoyable. The only thing that still puzzles me is why the rhythm section was not credited in the film, and that nobody in any of the linked articles and discussions seems to mention who was on piano and bass (was that George Duvivier?). The drummer was a studio player named Gary Chester, which was mentioned in the comments.

just looked it up, the word does exist and it roughly means what i meant, (and i wouldn't have posted the link if i hadn't remembered jsngrgy's scientology post)
