jazzbo
I'm looking forward to the next boxes. I've a pretty flexible system with a treble cut that's outside the signal path that allows me to enjoy a lot of recordings that I guess others don't. Listened to parts of the Dixon and Waldron and WSQ boxes this week. Great stuff.
GA Russell
Last year for Christmas I got the George Russell and Enrico Rava sets. Are there other sets that are not too free that would appeal to mainstream jazz fans like me?
jazzbo
You'd dig the Waldron.
GA Russell
Thanks, Lon. I was thinking about getting the Waldron last year, but Amazon was practically giving away the mp3's of much of that box. Maybe I'll spring for it this year. felser
Also check out the George Adams.
GA Russell
felser, yes, I've been thinking about that one because I saw Adams in Washington with Roy Haynes about 1970. Thanks for reminding me of that one.
xybert
The Charlie Haden set is fairly mainstream. If memory serves it's way more inside than the George Russell, anyway.
brownie
The Lee Konitz box should also appeal to non-avant tastes...
GA Russell
Charlie Haden and Lee Konitz both sound like great ideas! Thanks.
xybert
I forgot about the Konitz set... it's excellent IMO. I actually wondered at the time, how well regarded are the Konitz albums that make up the set among Konitz fans? I had low expectations and found them to be really nice slices of jazz from their respective periods.
king ubu
Charlie Haden and Lee Konitz both sound like great ideas! Thanks. If you like piano (and piano trios), the Pieranunzi might be to your likings, too!
JohnS
Volume 2 of the David Murray set is on Amazon UK for £21.43.

Д.Д.
Paul Bley will include "Not to be a Star" with Keshavan Maslak. It's a fun disc.

colinmce
Steve Lacy Horo box next, right?
xybert
Steve Lacy Horo box next, right? That would be cool. It does seem like Cam Jazz are branching out in to other Italian record labels. What's the word on the Gaslini? Looks interesting, i'm not familiar with him. I'll listen to some samples when i get home i guess.
jazzbo
I like the Gaslini I have, and I don't have these, so I'm looking forward to this box. I pre-ordered all these from amazon.fr some months back.
mjzee
Maybe they can do some Bird's Eyes boxes.
king ubu
I like the Gaslini I have, and I don't have these, so I'm looking forward to this box. Same here! There were four volumes of his "Integrale" and they almost run up to where this new box picks up (one album is missing in between, alas (Concerto della Resistenza), but this new box is a perfect addition to my Gaslini collection! It overlaps in time with his Soul Notes, of which the Monk might be the most amazing (maybe that's his towering achievement, really ... next to "Nuovi Sentimenti", which is more of a group effort). Steve Lacy Horo box next, right? That would be cool. It does seem like Cam Jazz are branching out in to other Italian record labels. Not sure they do ... DDQ have been part of the Soul Note/Black Saint enterprise for a while and that's what CAM took over ... (not sure if DDQ were a sister label to BS/SN from the git go though). But obviously it would be the shiznits if they did do some Horo material! But as far as Lacy goes, they should do the larger groups to comliment the solos/duos/trios set, anway! colinmce
Agreed, it wouldn't be huge: Trickles, Troubles, The Condor, The Cry, Vespers, Revenue ... I think that's it-- 7 discs.
xybert
Ah, didn't realise there was an existing connection between BS/SN and DDQ. Couldn't agree more with you guys about a second Lacy set to feature his larger groups. As much as i dug the first set i was slightly gutted that it didn't include any of the non solo/duo/trio material... my fingers and toes are crossed for a second set and the fact they've done a second Murray set gives me some hope. JohnS
The release of the new boxes has been put back to end Oct/early November according to an mail from Amazon UK
king ubu
No, according to the latest CAM mail (sometime this week, I've already deleted it), they're already out. They're also listed on their site now: http://www.camjazz.com/boxsets.html/ And amazon.fr is selling them now.
