JETman Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I sent an e-mail a month ago to info@camjazz.com, attaching a receipt showing purchase of the David Murray set, and have not received a response. Nothing in my spam, either. Perhaps I should resend or is there another e-mail address I should try? simone.vendittelli@camjazz.com Quote
tranemonk Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 I just ordered the World Saxophone Quartet set and last week the Don Pullen... I know these just got announced and came out but does anyone have any idea as to what the next set might be???? Which artists are left who had a lot of BS/SN recordings? Thanks. Quote
king ubu Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Well, the site got freaked up, it's much harder to find news... and the previous method of finding covers of upcoming but not yet officially listed releases (by entering the URL with subsequent catalogue-nos) doesn't work any longer. As for artists left: plenty of them, read through the thread here, there's lots of suggestions! They could easily do two more dozen of sets, I assume, maybe even twice as many. Quote
BeBop Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Thoughts on the Konitz set from anyone who knows the music, whether from this set or the originals? I'm definitely on the fence. I like Konitz a pretty lot, especially duos and tenor stuff. (...just by way of background) Listening to the samples Amazon has for the Black Saint/Soul Note set, it seems to be a whole mix of stuff - small and large groups, some angular, some straight ahead, some swinging, some whatever. In a way, it doesn't much matter, since I tend to listen either to one album...or to throw it on shuffle. Overall quality? Quote

I like Konitz and I have more than two dozen albums by him (and have heard at least another dozen). I sold my set. The Nonet album is the best but even that is not special and there is nothing else in there I would reach for over many other albums of his. Quote
JSngry Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 I bought Ideal Scene back in the day and it never really clicked with me. But I love Lee, and maybe I just wasn't hearing it then. Quote
Adam Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 I hope they might still do a Muhal Richard Abrams box. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Or George Lewis. Or Billy Bang. Or String Trio of NY..... Quote
Adam Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 There we go; the next 4. I have a few of the Billy Bang albums but only one of the Abrams. I do have the George Russell box and have been pretty pleased with that purchased. Quote
king ubu Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I can kind of relate to what gnhrtg and JSngry say about the Konitz, though I've no intentions to sell mine. I love and admire Lee's music and will keep listening to these. The octet album was the only one I've known previously (I've got the LP, also got the LP of the similarly fine Nonet album on Chiaroscuro), and so far it's still my favorite among the five in the box. The one with Peggy Stern, they had it in my high school's library, and that one never clicked with me, still didn't. Quote
Rupertdacat Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) . 17 sets (all releases to date?) are on sale until 7/31 at importcds.com. $22- $29! Searching (using the advanced search) 'Label/Studio/Mfg:' for 'soul note' brings them up. Reader, i married them. . Edited July 23, 2012 by Rupertdacat Quote
Head Man Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Does anyone know whether the problems with the David Murray Octet boxset are now over? ie if I order a copy from Amazon, will it be OK? Quote
mjzee Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 I ordered the Paul Motian and Bill Dixon boxes. Great prices. Quote
colinmce Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 Holy crap! With the exception of the Adams (I'd wanted John Lindberg) that is my precise wishlist! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 The Muhal is incomplete. I can think of 5 missing titles off the top of my head. Quote
romualdo Posted July 31, 2012 Author Report Posted July 31, 2012 The Muhal is incomplete. I can think of 5 missing titles off the top of my head. 1-0QA+19, Duet, Colors In Thirty-Third, Family Talk, Song For All Muhal was at the top of my list (with Julius) so I'm overjoyed I was afraid they wouldn't do a full Abrams set - looks like these are mostly large group/orchestra sessions Quote

tranemonk Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 I'm going to have to check out that Dave Douglas box... Now if we can get a Lovano box I'd be even happier. Quote
colinmce Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 Do. The best of those Dave Douglas records--Convergence, Five-- are incredible. I haven't even heard of a couple of them so I'm excited. Quote
Patrick Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 1. Anyone have info regarding expected release dates for these? 2. Is this a good point of entry for Muhal? I own none of his recordings (at least as leader). Have read a few enthusiastic reviews for Blu Blu Blu, but have not successfully tracked it down. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Patrick, looks as if they are released in Europe on October 9. Quote
