Hi, it's always nice to welcome another Murray fan to the board.

I'm not sure it's a fault, I think he's just off mic or not plugged in. He sounds a tad distant on Morning song too. I no longer have the vinyl so I can't compare.

David Murray fan, and John Zorn fan, Wadada Leo Smith fan, Miles Davis fan, Charles Mingus fan... etc...

Many thanks for your answer: probably you are right. I don't have the original vinyl, but in the first CD reissue, mastering volume is a bit different and for that reason Harris seems to be more present in the record.

Anyway, I think that this idea from CAM jazz is good: a cheap form to have a great part of last seventies and eighties Jazz. It deserves the buying, although you have any of the CD included in each box.

Any bet about the next bunch of boxes?

Greets!

Welcome aboard , would love the see the Trovesis or the Abrams come out but they are a lot of ways they can go.

Many thanks for the welcome! I'm sure that now I will learn a lot more, because until this moment, only reading thes forum I have done it!

I suppose that a WSQ box is probably near to be out. Maybe DON PULLEN (it will be a great selection!) or PAUL BLEY too.

No link yet... the covers aren't officially displayed on the site yet, either.

The pics were there in advance for the previous boxes, too... once you've figured out the URLs, you can just enter the next numbers (13 boxes out so far, so #14 is next).

I have become seriously addicted to this series--so far I've listened to the sets of Charlie Haden, David Murray, Lester Bowie, and Henry Threadgill, with Enrico Rava and George Russell in the queue. Next orders will probably be Steve Lacy and Lee Konitz.

Such a great series! I've bought every set and listened to each at least twice all the way through and I'm not at all done with them. I think I like the Dixon, Threadgill and the Russell the most, but all are worth hearing.

Jazz Loft has a sale on these items now. While the reductions from list/regular price are substantial, they're just a few cents below Amazon price (with free shipping), based on my quick perusal. But hey, some of us like Jazz Loft over Amazon.

First: Hi to everyone, because this is my firs post, although I have been read the forum since a long time.

Speaking about Black Saint / Soul Note box sets, I have all of them, and the last that I purchased was DAVID MURRAY, because I had 3 of 5 CD's included yet. Anyway, I have a little doubt: I think that the remastered work has a little fault in the "New Life" CD. If you listen to "Blues In The Pocket", you will listen to Craig Harris' trombone solo (from 5 minutes to the end) at an extremely low volume in the mix, while the other instruments are balanced.

Has anyone more noticed this? If this is true in every copy from that CD, it will be the first "bad" remaster from these boxes, because the others have a very improved sound.

Greets!

Was just about to post much the same thing.

Listening on headphones it also become apparent that the New Life disc is in mono. It almost seems like we're hearing one channel from a stereo mix and Harris' trombone was mixed to either extreme left or right.

Does anyone have the original LP or an earlier CD version to check this?

*edit*

Just done a quick scan of the other discs, a couple of which I haven't got round to hearing yet. Sounds like Hope Scope and Ming are also in mono. I have Ming from an earlier CD issue and a side by side comparison seems to suggest the right channel instruments are lower in the mix.

There's something not right here...

Personally, I had some of these titles, about 15 percent. I appreciate this music more now than ever. I had to grow into some of it. We don't all have the number of decades in that you do.
